like how many hours do u need to be off of it for everything to be normal again? and will waiting work every time? like lets say us start taking more and more, do u need to wait longer, etc? thanks

It varies, it could be 3-5 hours for an opiate-naive person's first time. (I assume you have no tolerance). That is my experience for a standard 5/500 vicodin. However, going to the bathroom seems to get less difficult over time IME, as your body gets accustomed to the hydrocodone. I have been taking vicodin for a couple weeks myself recently, and it constipates me very little. Began at 5 mg x2 daily, and am currently at 10mg x2 daily

thanks, so if my body gets used to vicodin, and then i all of a sudden stop, will it be easier or harder to go?

If you stop suddenly, then you would definitely go to the bathroom more quickly, perhaps even to the point of diarrhea, depending on your normal dosage, and how long you have been taking it. As the body gets more accustomed, you will be more likely to get the runs if you stop cold turkey. I suggest tapering down, unless you have been taking 5mg or less per day, which I doubt. Also, you may get irritable if you suddenly stop taking the vicodin. My advice is to take it slow if you really wish to quit the vicodin for bowel purposes.

I've been taking hydrocodone for 5+years. The constipation never went away for me. If I have any advice for you it's this, if you continue to use, invest in some stool softener, it will save you from alot of pain.

I've been taking opiates for about 3.5yrs. The first two years were 10mg of hydrocodone or oxycodone per day. The last year and a half has been pretty heavy usage. The constipation, in my experience, fades over time as my body got accustom to the opiates. I do seem to use the restroom lest than I used to and I haven't had diarrhea or loose bowels in 3.5yrs, but it does seem to get better (I haven't even been sick in the last 3.5yrs lol). If it gets too bad, definitely take some stool softener as Vikingdon suggests.

Oddly enough, the diarrhea part of opiate withdrawal is the part that irritates me the most. It's not even that bad in me usually and the other aspects of withdrawal are most definitely more intense, just hate that swamp-ass feeling.

I use a stool softener daily. (colace). I also use ex-lax when it gets really bad. As much as the box says an adult can use and sometimes an extra pill and I drink a bunch of water. Mag citrate works for emergencies but you will have to be near a toilet for the rest of the day.

Since it's vicodin.... Go into WD and the next morning you'll shit your brains out. I'm sorry, opiate constipation is a motherfucker.

Mira lax is amazing. It's OTC, you can look into that as well. Good luck.

thanks everyone! ok so one more question, so if i continue taking vicodin, and if tolerance builds up, all i have to do is not take vicodin for a few hours or a day, and i poop fine? thanks

Just take miralax it will keep things going, also eat fiber, and yogurt or a supplement with the active cultures in it will do the trick. Worse case use a glyceryn suppoistory they work in mins. but the best bet is to just do one of the above to keep things moving along. Also coffee with lots of flavored coffee creamer can do the trick. The ways to keep things healthy are endless. Fiber and yogurt or the supplements have the same active cultures are really good for you anyway and even keep your gut happy when not taking opiates. Also they are very inexpensive and can be bought at any walmart or drug store. Good Luck Oh do these and you won't half to ask how long? If it never starts? If your constiapated right now and its painful then march on down and get the suppository its really now big deal and works really fast. 10-15 mins and you go just fine. I do not like stuff like exlax it can and usually make you sick the whole next day. Look up the reviews.

This is typical of all opiates. You are just gonna have to take in extra fiber, and water.

Sometimes a little Ex-lax will help. I'd say laxatives are a last resort. These are very good, but you could lose the function to shit if you take them for a long time then stop.

really, just completely stop shitting? anyways well i've taken a total of 8 7.5/500 pills over 4-5 days, i'm 17 and weight 92 pounds, and i just completely stopped for like a day now, will i be completely back to normal, or will i always be a little constipated? like if i dont take any laxatives etc? and how long should it take? bc i'm still mostly constipated now
