How long can I keep this up?

I've been using (mostly plugging) dilaudid daily for about a year and a half now, ever since my doc first scripted me for back pain. The pain still comes and goes, but I'd say my usage is largely recreational (I dose 3 or 4 times a day, mostly to keep withdrawl at bay (wd kicks in after about 6 hours these days)).

I'm taking about 32mg a day (four 8 mg pills).

Iv'e actually tried to talk the doctor out of continuing to script me, but he insists the meds are safe and I don't have to worry about addiction or side effects.

So he keeps giving me a script every month and I happily keep using.

The drugs haven't affected my life in any big way, other than spending more time at home dosing as opposed to going out. And even though I'm not getting as high as I used to, I refuse to iv or take more.

The question is: how long can I keep this up? Where am I heading long term?

Has anyone else out there been using opiates daily for more than a year?

if u were to stay where u are ud be fine. but eventually id imagine what u take would do NOTHING. and id have a hard time believing u wouldnt ever take more, but im not sayin it aint possible

Yes, I would say most bluelighter have used opiates daily for more than a year. If you really need them for pain, then take them as needed. If you need them for pain and feel that you will abuse them, then try gonig to pain management where they count your pills and test your levels to make sure you are taking your dose properly.

You are heading down a dark path with the choice of pain management. From experience as a chronic pain sufferer (2 herniated discs, nerve impingement, DDD, arthritis, all from getting hit by a car), I was on the short acting opiates, ranging from hydrocodone to oxycodoone to hydromorphone and oxymorphone. I ultimately found myself snorting and plugging said opiates because the short, yet strong sense of analgesia and euphoria was much better than the oral absorption of the medicine. I eventually got into IVing heroin and hydromorphone because I couldn't take the pain, but I knew I was in a bad place, so I went to a detox/rehab to straighten myself out.

My doctor then put me on the long acting opiates/opioids, which were a godsend. No longer did I need to abuse the meds. Bad mistake to put me on OxyContin and Opana ER, but I was honest to the doctor and they out me on Fentanyl patches, which have helped me so much, plus I do not feel the need to abuse them. I get the Teva patches so I really cannot abuse them or attempt to abuse them, and I feel like a burden has been lifted from my shoulders.

tl;dr - BE careful, addiction and dependence are always very close when taking an opiate as strong as Dilaudid, so perhaps try to get on a chronic pain controller, such as Fentanyl.

^^^I am confused as to your problem with pain management.

Are you saying pain management docs put you on short acting opiates which led to more abuse?
Then what docs put you on longer acting opiates? Fent, Opana, and oxycontin are just as addictive as the drugs you mentioned from pain management, aside from Opana ER being harder to abuse due to the ER mechanism.
Clarify please because it seems alot harder to abuse pills when you are being monitored, and having your pills counted.
