My best friend has been using 90mg of oxycodone everyday for 7 days. He says he's finished having fun and wants to stop consuming the pills. Will he have any problems physically, psychiologically, or both?

if it has only been seven days for the love of god tell him to throw em out or something - if he's not already in a cycle of opiate addiction he is in danger of it. The thing is, when u havent used much you tend to not be able to see how the use is affecting your mind. Like how you fuck up and hurt ur body or are in a bad mood - these side effects that ARE NOT withdrawal starting to happen. you think :o: i can handle this! after which u use some more cuz you just dont feel well. That's the real danger - first withdrawals from a week on aren't that bad, and may tempt a user into thinking "that's all there is to opiate withdrawals" Then you're in a for a real shitfest. because it doesnt get better - the eventual result is a dawning realization that you've crossed a serious biophysical line and that you must continue acquiring opiates - otherwise ul get a REAL taste of withdrawal. Constant stomach spasm/heave, sweats/chills, jerky achy muscles, teary eyes, vomiting, diahrrhea it's reallly a pretty picture. so let him read this, see if it rings true. if i had read something candid and honest about this first part of the processs i coulda saved some time :)

How often can one take opiates without withdrawal?

I want to know how many times a week a normal person can do oxy without having physicalwithdrawal problems. I have no problem with addiction and stopping whenever I feel like. I been thru the most addictive substances and had no problem so please don't reply with that.

Well, you're justifying something.. 1st step and all that..

Anyway - physical dependence is quite different from psychological. Medication half-life, dose level, frequency all play a part. Pretty much anything more than once per week is going to land you in a bad spot with time.

Something like hydrocodone will be less dangerous in terms of addiction due to Methadone (half-life). High dose use will cause you to need more, and it will stay in your system longer between doses. The longer your system has something in it, the longer it gets used to having that and will eventually need it.

Taking 90 mg of oxycodone over 7 days and then stopping will result in very, very minor withdrawal symptoms, if any. He might feel a little anxious, achey, and may have moderate diarrhea. They would be so minor, that he wouldn't notice any withdrawal effects. Seven days of oxycodone use is nothing, even at 90 mg.

Doing something like oxycodone 1-2 times a week will avoid withdrawals for you. Even using it 3 times a week is okay. However, the trouble is keeping that schedule - eventually you'll find yourself doing it 4 times a week instead of 2, then you'll find youself doing it 5-6 times a week instead of 4 and you'll keep justifying your usage until you are doing it everyday.

Drugs like codeine, hydrocodone, and oxycodone are slower to cause physical dependence compared to the stronger opioids like morphine/heroin, hydromorphone, or oxymorphone.

I merged your two, nearly identical, threads together.

Please refrain from creating duplicates in the future. If you're not receiving answers as fast as you'd like, wait. This isn't an "instant response" forum, and sometimes it takes several hours before someone can weigh in on the subject.

Also, the use of "my friend" or any other form of "oh, but it's not me!" isn't allowed here. We know it's you using the drugs.

Thanks,

due to the short half life of oxycodone, expect physical withdrawl symptoms as early as 12 hours after use. it's a very intense but very short lived withdrawl, which is good. rather withdrawl from oxy intensly then withdrawl from a slow methadone agaonizing detox or suboxone
..in my experience, i've hit physical withdrawl in the evening from oxy after doing it in the morning
