Hello,

I'm sorry if this is in the wrong section. My question is, is there a period of time after I eat a meal that I should wait for Ativan or Valium to be the most effective? I have heard that eating them on a full stomach lessens their effectiveness. But, as you if you can't can't tell already, I am a n00b to this kind of stuff.

I'm also assuming that it would depend on the type of meal IE you could take them quicker after eating a light soup compared to a solid like steak, pizza etc.

Thank you for any advice or suggestions, and if there is something else I should include then please let me know.

Thanks. :)

Yes, taking them on an empty stomach will increase effects, but honestly it's nothing too noticeable. Just wait an hour or two after you eat so your stomach can get a chance to start digesting. And yea, soup would be different than a steak, the more dense/compact the food, the more time you'd spend digesting

Anything that 'fills up' the stomach is gonna make it absorb slower, so onset is a lot slower, and so effects can seem weaker (though overall, due to the length of effects, after 4 hours or so the plateau should be the same).

It can help if you take the pills sublingual - that is, hold them under your tongue. This bypasses stomach, and can be more efficient as it makes effects come on faster, especially if you just ate a heavy meal.

Hope that helps, ask if you need more info =D

You should try to wait a couple of hours after eating a large meal before taking them, as nAON mentioned it can effect the rate of absorption and thus slow the onset of effects.

The actual length of time you should wait really depends on the type of meal and the size of the portion. A lighter meal means less waiting. A larger meal means more waiting. I've always preferred to take mine on an empty stomach and eat about 20 or so minutes later.

IMO it doesn't really matter with benzos. Other drugs are different story, but I don't care if I take benzos on a full stomach. The rate of absorbtion will be a little slower, but honestly not that much. You could always take them under the tongue, that would result in a slightly faster onset regardless of whether you've eaten or not.
