i was wondering how hard it'd be to get a temporary prescription (for 3-6 pills) of Xanax or any other anti-anxiotiy(sp) medication.
i went off Nubain(an opiate agonist/antagonist) a week ago and the only symptom of withdrawls now is mild panic-attacks.
by the way, i don't have heath-insurance n-e-more.
should i tell the Doc that i've recently quit 'bain? b/c he's gonna see slight discoloration on my arm over the vein( i don't have typical *tracks* on my forearms) the only [injecting] scar i have is on my bicep and that's pretty much healed.
will he still prescribe me something for the panic-attacks even though i'm a recovering(that sounds lame) addict?

Thats pretty unlikely. If your doctor knows that you are a recovering addict, then he will know that you have a history of drug abuse, which will more than likely discourage him from giving you benzos even more.
Benzos are drugs that do carry a high potential for abuse, in his eyes it would be like handing a recovering heroin addict a script for percocets to help them coup with withdrawal.
Your probably going to get a script for some kind of SSRI if you go to the doc office with that story.

will the SSRI do the just helping with anxiety?
i know it'd be a long-shot to get a full refillable script. but would he even prescribe 3-6 .25mg tabs?
keep in mind, this would be at a low-income clinic (ah, the luxury of un-reported drugsale income).
what about Zoloft, Luzox or Buspar? i have *internet* access to these.

Less then 10 pills? It easier then a candy raver trying to get a pill at the end of the night!
Simply tell yer doc that you're goingto be flying acrossthe world - from America to Europe "with my parents" .. tell him you have ALWAYS had a fear of flying and with the recent attacks, you can't even SLEEP out of fear... saythatwhen you hear an airplanego overhead you get very nervous, your palms get sweaty, and you don't think you will be able to fly... this is an instance where you CAN request a medication by name - since you're getting a VERY short supply... I would say something like -
"Yeah, this is definitly not the first time.. after I was actually unable to get on a flight out of terror, I went to a psychitrist, he gave me 1mg Ativan, and next time I flew, I ended up taking twice the dose, I guess thats 2mg, andit worked like a charm! I was so calm, cool, and relaxed I could have flown the plane ha-ha-ha (fake doctor laughter) .. so when I went in for the followup with my psychitrist, I told him what great success had.. later that year, I flew to Hong Kong with my father for business, he sells Widgits, do you know how many practical uses a Widgit has? (mindlesssmall talk) .. I told my doctor and he gave me enough 2mg Ativan to get through the flight, and sure enough, even if I was on thewing of the plane I wouldhave been cool as a cucumber ha-ha-ha (more doctor humor) ..."
This should get you what you want... don't expect more then 5-10...

I have heard mixed things about the helpless junkie bit - and USUALLY you're NOT GOING TO GET ANYTHING that could possibly be abused (read: fun) .. if you say you can't sleep, have panic attacks, etc.. then you might get something like Trazadone before you get any benzo ... we do NOT like to give heroin addicts benzos for obvious medical reasons..

I did something like this at a local walk-in clinic ("Doc-in-a-Box" or "Quack Shack"). I figured that I could score a script for something from them because I've been there three times for upper respiratory infections (such as bronchitis), and on two of those occasions, the doctor asked me (without any prompting) if I wanted some hydrocodone cough syrup to go with my antibiotics.
I explained that I was experiencing anxiety due a specific upcoming event, which was true (although I exaggerated my symptoms a bit). I got a script for 30 pills of .25mg Xanax. Nothing special, but hey, it beats leaving empty-handed.
Oh, if you're going to use anxiety as your reason for seeking benzos, you might want to think twice about telling them you're experiencing chest pains. (I actually had some, although, again, I exaggerated the severity and frequency somewhat.) They hooked me up to an EKG machine, which added $75 to the standard $75 office visit charge.

only yesterday, as per my advice, my friend explained his post 9/11 fear of flying to his doctor and was very quickly offered xanax. but not a boatload...only a few. don't go asking for the 2 mgs or anything more than what is offered. and don't be twitchy :)

In this situation, the classic axiom: "The truth will set you free" seems most appropriate.
It sounds like your doctor already understands your situation and if he/she is indeed doing the best possible thing for you, then they should provide you with a small Rx for some benzodiazepiene. Be very forthright with your physician and ask for something to take PRN (as needed) when and if you have a panic attack, and share with him/her that this is a legitimate concern.

My friend was recently given a temporary script for Xanix. All he did was tell the doctor he was going on vacation and was terribly afraid of flying during these present conditions in the US.
The doctor asked him if he wanted something to sedate him during the flight or to just calm him down. He said he just wanted to feel really relaxed. The doctor wrote him 15 1mg Xanix. It was no scam, true story. He had a flight and was scared to fly. He wound up only needing 6 of them so he had a few left over to chill with...

I tried the fear of flying thing with my doctor back in January or so (and I was actually flying somewhere for work) and he told me to go take some benadryl to knock me out.
Maybe I'm just horribly unconvicing.
This doc sucked anyways. I got a new one that at least seems like he listens to me.

EVERYTIME I went into withdrawl
I was given either lorazepam or clonazepam
They only give me 25 or so, just enough to last the withdrawl period
When I went into withdrawl I would go to the hospital and every doctor I saw would be willing to hand out benzos
THE ONLY PROBLEM: I HATE BENZO'S
most were given away :)

you should have no problem getting xanax from your doc (as long as he prescribes that kind of shit)....i agree, tell the nurse/doc that you are going on a trans-oceanic trip and cant fly without something.....last time i did this, i got 30 xanax
