How fast does percocet tolerance build

Someone I know was taking 4-6 5/325 percs about every other day for about 2 weeks. They took a two week break and then was prescribed 10/325 percs. That week they started with 2 and a few days later up to 7 with cwe. Is it possible for tolerance to have developed in this short amount of time or are they taking way too much?

I had to keep upping my dose by 2.5mg every 2 days for it to have the same effect
