Hey there! Ok so I posted recently about my plan to cold turkey off heroin as I wanted to get it over with as soon as possible. That did NOT happen. First my family found out I was using again and drama abounded and then I tried to cold turkey and made it all of 8 hours before picking up. I find it interesting and awful that I seriously start to notice the effects of withdrawal within 4 hours of last use. I am curious, how long does it take before YOU start to feel it? I realize it's different for everyone but I feel like 4 hours is ridiculous and this causes me to get up multiple times in the night as I wake up feeling sick. So with that being said I have decided to go the Suboxone route and I have a few questions (I smoke my H and am around 1 g a day and I have been using for just over a month since I was last clean).

1. How long is a safe amount of time to wait enforce taking my Suboxone? I am wondering if I won't have to wait as long since I get sick so quickly..that also kind of scares me because I reeeeeally don't want to be in pain for a full 24 hours waiting.

2. Any idea based on my use how much the sub dr will prescribe? The last time I was on subs I did a rapid taper and I swear the first day when I took 8 mg it didn't even really feel like it was helping but then a few days later when I took 4mg I felt a lot better.

3. I'm sure it's different everywhere but do you think it's likely the clinic where I live will have options other than the huge sublingual tablets? I've heard mention of thinner strips and "films" and am not sure what they are or how they work. I hate the big tablets, I swear it took 10min to dissolve an 8mg and was awful, I almost accidentally swallowed it!

4. What kind of maintenance will the dr likely recommend? Does it depend on what I want or do they prefer long term maintenance or taper? I would love to just use it to stabilize and taper off as quickly as possible while still staying somewhat comfortable. I just want to avoid prolonging the withdrawal process.

5. Do you know if these clinics ask you to come in on a daily basis to get your subs at first?

I know that all of these questions largely depend on the particular dr, clinic, and location but I'm just looking for your thoughts and what you guys consider likely. Thanks in advance! Any and all info is really appreciated, I am a huge wimp when it comes to withdrawal and just wished I had thought more about how awful it was last time before picking up my habit right where I left off..

please use the search engine or read one of the 13 Suboxone Mega Threads, these have been answered before.

1. when you are in full blown withdrawal. the subs will make you feel better though.
2. we can only speculate.
3. we can only speculate. the 'films' are basically sublingual orange gelatin breath strips, full of buprenorphine.
4. taper and detox is better in the long run, but again we can only speculate.
5. depends on clinic policy

imagine how big the forum would have to be to handle every suboxone user posting their subjective experiences. consider how useful that information is to other people reading your thread.

well , you know that everybody is different, so maybe i tell you "wait 10 hours" and its very little time to you, or maybe not, so i am giving answers that work for my organism:

1) I think 12 hours is enough for heroin. if you want to be sure, wait more, and start witjh just 0.5 or 1mg of bupre, to see how it affect you

2) Probably doctors will tell you to take a lot of bupre. I was prescribed 16 mg per day , lol, i am taking 2 mg and im feeling good. Why to take more drug if it means in future harder WD? i dont see the sense in doctors prescribing a lot of bupre

3) No idea

4) In my experience, they prefet looong term maintenance. I suggest you not to tell the docs "i want to do a fast tapper" because they probably wont agree with that. I am doing fast tapper but my doc belives i am stabilized on 16mg per day

5) in here sub is sold on pharmacies, opposite to methadone , where addicts must go to clinic everydady at first, to take their daily dosis. I guess it depends a lot of where do you live

Good luck! And take in mind that doctor is probably going to tell you sth as " you need to be on bupre for two years before tappering" and "tappering properly will mean no really WD " wich lot of people that has been on subs for a while seems to disagree

Sorry! I did look through the bupe threads but I didn't find exactly what I was looking for and I guess I was looking for answers based on my particular use. I was also curious about people's experience in regards to how fast they go into withdrawal. Ill be more careful to look through other threads in the future :)

I'm stable on 14mg daily right now: that was how much it took to hold me! Any less, and I was sick again within hours. That's why :)

Fair enough. My first few days were horrible on Subs: we started at 8mg and it didn't even touch the sides... lol. Wasn't fun. But, all better now!

In the last 2-3 weeks I've used bupe for w/d and to get high. I got beat for a bundle on a Friday (the 5th actually) and the last time I used at that time was the morning if the 4th and by the next morning I was withdrawing. I didn't dose my sub till the next morning cuz I couldn't find anything. It's weird cuz that's the first time I've w/d for 6-7 years. I guess 13 bags every 2 days for like 10-12 days will do that

When I was switching back and forth to get high I would have to be off dope for only 6 hours so I wouldn't go into precip w/d. I don't know if that answers any questions or not but I figured I'd put out my input anyways

Wait to take the subs until you are in moderate withdrawal, whenever that is. Don't get hung up on a specific amount of time because it is different for everyone. 24hours is the average wait time most people need, but a lot of people are sick enough after only 12 hours, etc, while some need to wait even longer than 24 hours.

I've noticed every time I try to quit, the withdrawals hit me faster compared to when I know I won't quit and I don't have any. For example if I knew I was going to try and quit the withdrawals would hit me within 6 hours of my last dose. Compare that to taking my last dose and going to sleep and waiting for my dealer to be ready in which the withdrawals won't hit me even after the 6 hour mark.

Depends on the quality of the dope and your metabolism. I have a fast metabolism and good dope will hold me 18hrs if im lucky, shitty dope will only hold me for like 8 hours. I always wait at least 18 hours before taking any sub just to be sure. I had a 1/2 gram to a gram a day habit and the crazy fuck dr want me to take 24 mg a day! I only need like 1.5-2mg to get by. Hes just a money grabber. Doesn't even accept insurance.

1. They say as long as you are in WD, it's safe to take. I've read mixed reviews about this but my cat can take suboxone 8 hours after an oxy

2. My cat was into pills, not heroin but my cat knew someone who snorted heroin. He started out on 16mg.

3. The tablets are rapidly being replaced by the films. My cat actually preferred the tablets because of the taste. The 8mg subs taste HORRIBLE. But the person my cat knows said the films are more effective.

4. Most places, especially in the beginning, will work with what is most comfortable for you. Especially in the first month. If you tell them you are still feeling like crap with 16mg, they will up it. They want you comfortable so you do not go back to using.

5. My cat had to go every week for the first month, then every 2 weeks for 2 months, then every month until he was done taking them.

Yeah, it really goes to show the powerful mental aspect of withdrawal. You can make it much worse in your head and come on sooner by stressing about it, as many of us often do, especially when we know we have no choice.

^ Couldn't agree more. The first time I went through WD from 40mg of methadone a day; I had no idea what was wrong. I actually blamed it on the cocaine that I did the weekend before. It wasn't that terrible either looking back at it.

Ignorance is bliss, hah. I wish I could go back to not knowing what withdrawal even was, so I'd just consider myself normally sick and know it has to run it's course, then be done with it. Instead, now I've built up the withdrawal after all these years to be this intense monster that causes stress at the simple thought.

This is SO true. I find that if I'm even getting close to running out or my dealer is AWOL is start to feel anxious and get the beginnings of withdrawal extremely rapidly. Such a psychosomatic response..our brains are unbelievable.

Thanks for all of the response guys, I am going to the Suboxone clinic in my city ( I live in BC) tomorrow to get my UA and bloodwork that they require done. Then, they call a few days after that and I will go in to speak with a Dr. I'm really hoping they don't try to put me on some outrageously high dose and I'm also crossing my fingers that they have those strips that I've heard of. For some reason I really struggle holdin the sublingual tablets under my tongue for half an hour lol. I was reading the clinics website and apparently until you're stabilized it is a daily dosing at the pharmacy like they do with methadone.
