How does the heroin high work?

I am wondering if there is a plateau for heroin tolerance. Lately, I've been doing a larger amount then normal (IVing) and I haven't been able to get a good rush. I figure its from a heightened tolerance but is it possible for my tolerance to plateau? I used to do about 100 mg per shot for a decent rush and 200mg would give me a really nice one. Now 200mg does almost nothing for me. I've thought about trying a 400mg shot, but I'm worried that it if I've plateaued then I'll just be wasting my money. I know with some opiates like suboxone, you can hit a plateau (not sure waht the plateau dose is) and you wont feel any greater affects once you reach it. Is this the same for heroin or can I just add to my dose to feel a nice rush again?

I can't really answer the question, but it sounds like your tolerance hit more of an asymptote lol...sorry...just had to address that.

My drug addiction doctor told me that when you just start using heroin the 'loft' or 'plateau' for how good you can feel is very high to begin with, but as you keep using and increasing your dose, that plateau lowers. It has nothing to do with tolerance (well, obviously that plays a part too, but it's not just that). Just ask the junkie in the alley a block down the street; he has been a dope addict for years and now heroin for him is just like methadone; it's no longer a means to feel good, only to relieve withdrawals. My doc explained it alot better though.

Tolerance does plateau at a point, but generally you can always add more drug to get a stronger effect. The problem is, the amount of drug you have to add increases exponentially so eventually it becomes infeasible to add more.
