how does 'G' work?

to respond to CN first comment ill post the paragraph that comes before those other two above ...
"As documented in the scientific literature, 1,4-butanediol is rapidly absorbed and metabolized to g-hydroxybutyric acid in animals and humans. A metabolism and disposition study conducted in F344/N rats by the NTP confirmed the rapid and extensive conversion of 1-[14C]-1,4-butanediol to 2. Because of this rapid and extensive conversion, the toxicological profile of 1,4-butanediol reflects that of g-hydroxybutyric acid. g-Hydroxybutyric acid is a naturally occurring chemical found in the brain and peripheral tissues which is converted to succinate and processed through the tricarboxylic acid cycle. Although the function of g-hydroxybutyric acid in peripheral tissues is unknown, in the brain and neuronal tissue it is thought to function as a neuromodulator. g-Hydroxybutyric acid readily crosses the blood-brain barrier, and oral, intraperitoneal, or intravenous administration elicits characteristic neuropharmacologic responses. These same responses are observed after administration of 1,4-butanediol."
as to CN first quote. it is well know ghb and its analogs can cause quite severe "withdrawal" symptoms. for MANY reports on withdrawal from GHB head to: http://www.erowid.org/experiences/subs/exp_GHB.shtml#Addiction_&_Habituation . for MANY reports on withdrawal from 1,4b head to: http://www.erowid.org/experiences/subs/exp_1,4-Butanediol.shtml#Addiction_&_Habituation .
also here is an article explaining why i used the word withdrawal loosely http://www.erowid.org/experiences/exp.php3?ID=169
on CN second quote i put forward the suggestion that the 1,4b that person was using was not cleaned properly and contained heavy metals and dangerous chemicals, as entrope commented in my post: http://www.bluelight.ru/cgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=35&t=001932 . same goes for Murples experience report which is commonly quoted as a source of toxicity. read my post on why i think it should be taken with a grain of salt.
for a page with a number of experiences of using 1,4b (most probably well cleaned and safe for human consumption) head to http://www.nutritionalsupplements.com/borametz.html . there are stories of people using 1,4b for YEARS with mainly positive stories. i suggest you read ALL the stories to get the full picture.

^ Impressed :) Generally around these parts there has been a bit of pro-GHB, anti-1,4b sentiment, which is fair enough I suppose given the historical angle we've arrived here from. It's kind of a moot point though IMHO because everyone bleats about how good GHB is and then drinks 1,4b all day because GHB isn't available.
I'm proud to see people investigating 1,4b instead of taking other people's word that it's a terrible liverkiller.

Chem: I'm fairly certain 1,4 is illegal under analogue laws...
Could someone post the customs sight with the listings on it? Go on, you know you want to, don't make me search :P~

Chemical Night- Don't be so quick to say that there is NO ghb in melbourne, if you know where to look you can get damn near anything. I personally was having solid GHB wax not more than two months ago. While it might be the case that the majority of whats out there is 1,4b one shouldn't be quite so presumptious to state that GHB is entirely unavailable. The recent crackdown on the importation of GBL may have severly affected supply there are other methods of making GHB that doesn't require GBL.
