How does alcohol qualitate-ivly change your opiate experience

So, was just wondering, for you, how does alcohol affect your opiate experience? Does it increase all effects, pleasant and not? Does it have no effect on the high, but make you much more drowsy? I'm not recommending people go out and try this, but those of you that mix the two, what would you say is your experience?

I'm a methadone patient who recently started having problems with a ruptured disc.... Aside from physical therapy and giant doses of ibuprofen/naproxen, and the "relief" I feel briefly in the morning that allows me to stretch my neck at least after my 150mg daily methadone, I'm in pretty constant significant pain.... I'm not looking to start adding drinking to my regimen, but wonder if a drink in the evening (not several, and not near bed time) would help my methadone's pain relieving affects at all.... I hope that I'll be able to find a doc who will be understanding of my methadone, which I'm on because oxy was too expensive and became a problem, (there are people in MMT who are there for pain treatment, afaik) , will be willing to change things up to get some breakthrough relief as well.....heh,yea, right

but yea, is there any real truth to the old 1+1=3 sign in high school bathrooms?

I enjoy having a couple drinks when I'm on opiates. Much more enjoy smoking cigarettes and weed though to intensify it though.

I dont enjoy alcohol on opiates but i dont enjoy alcohol at all but weed yes its hard but i like since I am big fan of marijuana

I think the 1+1=3 thing isn't too far off.

There's a fine line, for sure. Drinking on methadone is more dangerous than drinking on other opiates, just like taking benzos on methadone is more dangerous than taking benzos on other opiates.

IMO, anything more than a drink or two ruins the experience. One drink, or even half a drink, can improve the euphoria and warmth a bit, but its playing with fire once you get past the 1-2 drink range.

I hit on a greater number of attractive wimminz.

Also, I puke the next day...

Not a good idea...IMO, of course, personally I might have a ginger vodka & soda or (your preferred flavor) w/ at least 16oz.'s of 0 sodium soda, stay hydrated ! The higher the alcohol percentage whether, beer, wine or mixed drink, the more water you should intake (a sweet mix would make me feel ill)...

Not a good idea.

Every time I've combined the two, I always end up beyond wrecked or sick and unable to enjoy the Opiate high. Don't bother.

Drink just enough to get cozy... Anything beyond that is irresponsibly stupid...

People just do not get the concept of taxing multiple drugs at once.

Your main drug is obviously methadone... So you are just augmenting...

Have a pack of beers laying in the fridge... Drink one beer... see how you feel in the minutes later... Drink another one... Repeat the process.

Self awareness is the key factor. Get in your comfort zone and stop... That simple.

I do find the alcohol over-rides the feelings from the opiate (roxycodone for me). So if you prefer the opiate, drinking isn't the way to go.

There's no doubt that alcohol increases drowsiness whilst on opiates, especially if tired before hand. I personally enjoy a few drinks on a high dose of codeine, but I just take it easy on the alcohol (depending on how much I can handle at the time) so it's relaxing without overriding the codeine too much :)

Alcohol increases GABA firing Opiates decrease GABA. Opiates release dopamine by inhibiting GABA while Alcohol works against this. I would think that Alcohol would thus take away from the opiate effect. However reports seem to contradict each other so theory aint everything lol

If I have smoked some heroin then I have no desire to drink alcohol at all.
The few times that I have had a few beers after smoking heroin I found that it really seemed to take away from the heroin buzz.
But some folk I know love mixing the two so I guess its just different strokes for different folks.
