How do you guys feel about the Above The Influence commercials?

I've actually read stuff saying that these commercials along with stuff like DARE tend to be counter-productive and instead make kids more interested in drugs. If this shit wasn't around maybe not as many people would be interested in drugs.

You guys remember that anti-drug commercial back in the day with the kid sitting at his dad's desk with a bong and his friend in front of him, then he finds a gun in his dad's desk and he's so high that he ends up shooting his friend, now that commercial was hillarious :D.

Who the fuck gets so high that they grab a gun and start shooting friends? hahaha Seriously I don't think weed effects judgement at all, if anything it makes you more paranoid and sketched out about things and people around you.

But anyways, I remember in 6th grade when the DARE cop came in and gave us all little books with info on every drug, and I actually remember reading about LSD and thinking it's the coolest shit ever. Having had never done a drug back then and reading "Strongly powerful substances that profoundly alters reality via massive hallucinations" or something along those lines made me super interested about something like that. Like holy crap...

But yes drug education is bullshit, and the commercials are bullshit as well. I think the better option would be to give out pamphlets that contain logical information about the dangers of substances and whatnot for anyone who might be interested, as well as giving phone numbers for hotlines or some shit.
can i find that commercial on youtube?:)

i believe it. why do these old conservatives think they can actually get into the head of a middle schooler? Once Officer Dan tells a bunch of kids how un-cool drugs are, drugs are instantly considered cool.

Like any punkass 8th grader wants to feel swayed by a propaganda commercial.

Edit:
^ i agree the meth ones are really fucked up
the meth ones are the best. and by best i mean the most entertaining. there is one where a kid is attacked and brutally murdered with a cinderblock by a gang of weird, skinny zombie gangsters, and the narrator over top of the scene says that he wishes this would of happened so he did not make it to the party and try meth. or the billboard ad of miley cirus being raped by a lumber jack. the pot commercials are pretty boring, but the montana meth ad campaign was a goodie. had me on youtube for hours.

DUDE!!! i know exactly what you mean!! DARE actually got me interested in Ketamine and LSD at a very young age... i was so stoked when i got to try them in real life.... :D

Every one of those commercials I've seen seems pretty damn ineffective. I don't think we should be promoting drug use to young kids., but the message of those commercials is total abstinence which doesn't work.

It would be nice to see a fair and reasonable approach to drug advertising implemented instead of the idea that all drugs are bad and will make your eyes fall out.

I'd say some of them are pretty fair and reasonable. They've gone from a girl trashing a kitchen with a frying pan, claiming a smashed egg to be your brain on drugs (see: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nMwxWHaZUro) to basically promoting the idea that the world passes you by when you spend your life stoned (see: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2yfEvfJ9XAw). What's so unreasonable about that?

I love this one. After watching that I got so weirded out by my dog because she stares at me while I smoke. Then I realized she always does this and I 'm usually just baked as hell when I notice it lol. damn commercial got to me ;)

Kind of a cool commercial imo. Still the message is dumb as hell.

They really bother me because it is mostly government propaganda that
a. doesn't discourage drug use
b. wastes tax payers moeny
c. makes kids not believe in the dangers of the drug
d. is just fucking gay as all hell

They are full of terrible logic. It seems like their target audience is morons, which may not be such a bad idea to keep off drugs.
