How do you feel about the word 'Gay' ?

I use the word "gay" all the time. As it was said earlier "that's so gay" bla bla bla. I don't mean it in an offensive way, it just means to me (and alot of other people too) that "that's so crap".
One of my gay mates will tell us when we say it, he won't really get offended by it, he will just ask us to watch what we say. But then another gay mate says that "that's gay" and then will laugh at himself.

For the most part, I don't mind how people use it. Depends who's talking. I know most people on this board are not homophobes; so, I know it's being used in a joking manner. It probably is bad for it to be used negatively as much as it is, but it still doesn't bother me. You have to be able to laugh at yourself. Let's face it, some things are just plain gay. It is somewhat odd though that most of the time people use it on this board it's not refering to anything gay at all. I guess I'd appreciate a more accurate use of the word. Call gay what is gay, call stupid what is stupid.

I'd love to know, especially from homosexuals, how you feel about it? Do you think its offending, insulting, funny, you don't mind?

It wasn't until I lived with a gay friend of mine for a fair number of months that I realised how many times his sexuality had been snubed in some form or another from people who didnt know he was gay. He branded this as homophobia. Which I thought was harsh in alot of cases, ignorant perhaps, but not militantly homophobic.

It's definitely not homophobic. Gay is a word that has just turned into a word that people use to describe something. It sucks because it's probably totally offending to gay people, but I wouldn't know because I don't have any gay friends. People are going to use it until it gets old, which also sucks. People couldn't careless if it pisses off gay people, which is bullshit. As I say all this though, I'll admit, I'm guilty of using the word.
