Getting off meth is the easy part. Seriously, it's not that hard. You feel so shitty when you're on meth for extended periods of time that once you get through the coming down part and get to the part where you can actually sleep and eat it's such a relief. The hard part is yet to come...
staying off meth.
OP, don't let the anxiety and the drug itself keep you from coming down. All the heavy meth users I know quit for a week here and there pretty frequently. Because they ran out of crystal, they desperately need some sleep, they're trying to quit, etc... There's many reasons. Unlike opiates, meth is not physically addictive. But it is extremely psychologically addictive because it's a very tricky drug... it snatches you up, spins your head around, and before you know it you can't tell up from down.
I'm assuming a "pookie" is a pipe? Weird name for it... But good job throwing it away, you've made your first step forward. Congratulations. If you have any speed pills or meth around you need to flush it down the toilet. Like I said before, this isn't a physical addiction and there will be no tapering. Your best bet is to get off this shit ASAP. It's going to be hard for the next 48-72 hours.. you basically have to wait for the effects of the drug to wear off so you can eat and sleep. Until then you're going to feel like total crap and you may get some anxiety.. I definitely did. I felt so awful and my heart was racing and I was bored too because even though I was wired I was so tired I couldn't even watch TV. To this day I
still get extremely bad anxiety when I'm trying to sleep and I can't... and it's from all those times coming down desperately trying to sleep. There are some things you can take to help you feel better.
Natural supplements and vitamins that will help:
None of these are drugs. I've used them all, they really work.
Chelated magnesium - I'm only putting this up because Tricomb swears by it
Valerian root - for sleep
Melatonin - for sleep
Kava Kava - for sleep and helps w/ anxiety
5HTP - will help with the depression that usually sets in after quitting, increases production of serotonin
St. John's Wart - same as above, helps with positive mood
Acai and Vitamin C - antioxidants, helps repair damage
High quality multivitamin - you'll be malnourished from not eating, choose one with B vitamins for energy
L-Tyrosine - will make you more alert and help with that sluggish, low energy feeling you'll get initially
Omega 3 supplement - most Americans have an omega deficiency and some studies show this can cause depression
Milk Thistle - for your liver.
You
must exercise daily, even if it's just a walk. It will release endorphins, which will make you feel better and physical exhaustion will help you sleep. Also, eat as many fruits and vegetables as possible because they will rejuvenate you, make you feel better, and help repair the damage from the meth, which is extremely toxic to your body.
My favorite fruits are:
nectarines, peaches, cherries, watermelon, cantaloupe, plums, champagne grapes, pomegranates, pineapple, coconuts (the young ones with the white outside, you can drink the juice then crack it open and eat the inside with a spoon),
and Asian pears. Smoothies are a good way to eat a bunch of fruits at once. My favorite one at the moment is frozen strawberries, frozen pineapple, fresh bananas, skim milk, and orange juice (preferably fresh squeezed but store bought is fine as long as it's not from concentrate and is 100% juice). I also add a scoop of protein powder. The one I use has minerals and vitamins as well.
My favorite vegetables are:
zucchinis, broccoli, avocado (technically it's a fruit but it's a vegetable dammit!),
onions, olives, bell peppers, potatoes, yams, spinach, corn, sweet peas, cucumbers, cauliflower, and artichoke. My favorite way to eat veggies is to stir fry them. I heat some olive oil in a pan and then had 5-6 chopped up veggies. I always have onions, they give stir fries flavor. I also add fresh (never dried!) herbs like thyme, basil, and rosemary plus salt, pepper, Italian seasoning, Chili powder, and a little soy sauce and sesame oil. Salads are also good, but I'm SO picky about what goes in them because otherwise they're yucky to me. I just recently started eating salads despite being vegetarian

Never use iceberg lettuce, it has no nutrients. The darker the leaf the better it is for you. At leaaast use Romaine okay? Then I add avocado, a tiny bit of finely chopped onions, and precooked diced Morning Star Chik patties. But you could use chicken breast if you eat meat. I toss it with extra virgin olive oil, balsamic, and a little salt and pepper. I like to keep it simple. Sometimes I use cucumber and beets.
OKAY, so the point of all this is... it's not the end of the world. The key to regaining your health is unprocessed, fresh food and exercise. Focusing your attention on consuming the key nutrients, vitamins, and minerals found in live, vital food will also keep your attention away from craving drugs. Researching healthy recipes and trying them out, tasting different fruits and vegetables and discovering which ones you likem and educating yourselves on vitamins and where to find them is seriously a great way to distract yourself and you'll feel good knowing you're doing something good for your body. You just need to get all this poison out of your body from the last month.. You should consider a detox diet of some sort, just Google them online I'm sure you can find a good one.
RX drugs that can help when you're coming down
I really, really must stress that these are just for the first couple days while you're coming down and you can't sleep.
Do NOT continue to take them as you will just end up with another addiction. And the last thing you need is a physical addiction.
Sleeping medication - Seroquel knocked me out for 18 hours and I woke up weak and starving but rested and no longer high. Ambien or something similar would also work. You need to be extremely careful though, take only small doses at a time. If you wake up you can always take a little more but if you take too much you may never wake up.
Opiates - They may not help you sleep but you will be waaaay more comfortable. I don't think these are a good option to you because you said you had a problem with them before. I don't know the extent of your problem.. if it was really serious than just scratch this, I'll take it off the list
Benzos - They will help with the anxiety and help you sleep. Do NOT mix them with any other drug and take them in small doses.
Muscle relaxants One of the side effects is you ptfo. Flexeril is great for this purpose. So is Soma I believe though I've never tried it. If you absolutely
need a drug to get through the come down, go with muscle relaxant. They're safe and effective but don't over do it.
Honestly though I do not recommend using drugs to sleep. Use the natural methods above and tough it out. It will be good for you.. when you're forced to take accountability and deal with the consequences of your actions it makes you a stronger person and you're less likely to relapse. Take hot showers, sleep with a heating pad under your back, drink tea, and try and keep your stomach full because for some reason that's always made me sleepy.
Okay, still with me? This is the last part, I promise. Like I mentioned before, coming down off meth is hell. But once you get through that you will feel better very quickly. The hard part is a few weeks later you forgot about how awful meth is and suddenly you just can't seem to remember why you ever quit. All memories of your awful comedown have just vanished from your mind like a dream you can't remember when you wake up. And for the life of you you can't think of a reason not to get high. BAM, you relapse.
Meth is a cunning, devious demon of a drug. It will out smart you at every turn if you don't stay on top of it. You have to stay vigilant, you can't fall into the trap of going on with your life like nothing ever happened. You have to put in the work... Go to meetings, talk about it with people you trust, go to TDS here on BL every day, take a little time each day to congratulate yourself on how far you've come and make a game plan to keep yourself from falling off the wagon. You absolutely can quit and never touch meth again. But you have to want it and you cannot forget what an evil, filthy drug it is. Ever.
