Pharmacology How do drugs like abilify modulate dopamine as far as detecting if it needs increased or decreased?

I don’t know where to find information on this but it always makes me wonder if they are just talking shit when they say abilify increases dopamine when it’s low and decreases when it’s high. How would it know when to increase or decrease? How does this make any sense without it being a microchip or something? I just can’t see a chemical doing that. Am I way off?
