How different is eating to smoking?

I have heard that they had different effects, where eating hash cookies is more of a body high whereas smoking gives you the precious mental high. So what are your experiences with each of these processes? Does the stomach really have a different route than the lungs in getting THC to the body and it's various parts/organs?

A lot of edibles will give you a body high but what it really comes down to is if the weed was Sativa or Indica.

Indica is the body high and Sativa is the head high. I've had some pretty bomb Sativa edibles that gave me a really nice head high and a lot of energy.

Also when you smoke weed you're wasting a small amount when it burns whereas eating it your body absorbs 100% of it.

yea eating it will get you alot higher and a body high. Alot of people trip out because its pretty intense. i compare it to a mini shroom trip.

There is a huge difference between the highs when ingested and smoked.

When you smoke, the high starts to take effect very close after smoking. The high is fast and results in a peak close to the hour point.

When your orally ingest THC you are ingesting 100% of the THC, CBx compounds. The high usually does not take effect until the hour mark, and peaks around 3-4 hours, and sometimes lasts up to 6. You can take much larger doses when your orally ingest.

Personally i perfer eating the substance. The high is much more euphoric. The psychedelic properties are really exposed in moderate to high doses.

Also who dosnt love eating an amazing piece of medicated cheese cake, that knocks you on your ass;)

One major reason I have doubts that eating is superior to smoking is because digestion takes a while to process the molecules and because it is slow, each of the molecules come out of the stomach bit by bit, resulting in a body buzz but barely a body or cerebral high.

Eating is Definitely superior to smoking. I discovered firecrackers in August and I hardly ever smoke anymore. It does take a while longer to come on though.

So do you just prepare firecrackers starting with a certain amount of weed? Can you give me basic step by step instructions?

Eat some.. once you start feeling it smoke some. Best of both worlds.

I'd say if you are making edibles stay away from firecrackers... they are nice but I don't find them as powerful as making some weed-oil and baking some brownies.

They are simply different Routes of Administration. Smoking does not physically allow you to get as much THC and cannabinoids AT ONE TIME as you potentially can with eating. Smoking does however allow you to get the THC and cannabinoids into your system FASTER than edibles.

I've never smoked so much that I couldn't see straight, had difficulty walking and felt as though I might vomit. I can't say the same for eating cannabis.

Hello w01fg4ng,

so you are saying that the cannabinoids hit you AT ONE TIME via digestion??? I would have thought otherwise since digestion takes longer. If my body digests the hash cookies you're saying that it would hit me at once just like it would if I smoke it? As opposed to entering my blood bit by bit? Then that would mean that the molecules of the cookies slowly turn into an effective high causing substance that flows throughout the body all at once as opposed to bit by bit.

Not exactly. Digestion does take time and you do slowly get the effects over time, but I am more referring to how much you physically can eat versus how much you physically can smoke at any given time.

Ex. If you eat 2 grams of hash oil @ T- 2 hours you will effectively be higher than if you had attempted to smoke 2 grams instead at T-2 hours (which it would physically take you 2 hours to smoke a gram of oil proper, nevertheless 2 grams). By the time you are finishing the last of smoking your second gram, the first gram is already on the way out the door to contributing to your high. Whereas when you eat it you are just starting to feel the full effects of most of the 2 grams at T-2 hours (because you ate it at once, and not over several hours like you would have to smoking it).

So, even though it might take more to high off of eating it, you can potentially get higher because you can eat more than you can smoke at any given moment in time.

The only exception to this rule that I can think of is tolerance. Let's say you stop smoking weed all together and only eat it. After a while you build a tolerance to the ROA and you might be able to get higher off smoking it at that point. That's just a guess though, not from experience.

^ Exactly. Eating cannabis you could consume an ounce (NOT RECOMMENDED) in the 30 seconds it takes to eat a snack. :D

I realize that this post was probably unnecessary given wolfy's great explanation but the thought of consuming an ounce in under a minute makes me chuckle.

Simply stated, this is exactly what I am saying. Also I chuckled.

" When you ingest cannabis, it goes into your intestines, then passes through your liver. Your liver processes THC into a by product called 11-hydroxy-THC, which then travels to the bloodstream and then to your brain. 11-hydroxy THC is thought to be four to five times more potent than regular THC. This is why edibles are known to be more potent when compared to inhaled cannabis. Edibles are also thought to be strong sedatives and many patients use them for treatment of insomnia."

edibles man, its the way nature intended. The experience is a lot more intense, its has more of a natural psychedelic feel. I find it to be more intense than mushrooms or lsd in many ways. The only downside is the intense sedation, you can easily pass out if you dose too high. The best approach ive found, is to heat some heavy cream in the microwave or on stove top, throw some hash or ground nugs in. then add the cream to some coffee. best way to start the day

i personally dislike eating brownies or w/e. onset takes longer and, to me, is unpredictable compared to smoking. just depends on what you like and i much prefer to fire one up... hmmm, sounds like a good idea ;)

Eating-Gets you very stoned with a body buzz for longer than smoking does and it can last for a day or more if you eat too much which is very easy to do. I also would compare it to a low dose mushroom trip without visuals but I've had this happen from smoking very good herb too.

Smoking-Depending on your tolerance and how often you're smoking it can last for 4 maybe 5 hours until you come down and have to smoke more. You might get some couchlock from smoking a pure Indica but that's light compared to eating too many brownies. Yes it's possible to smoke too much but it will be over faster than if you accidentally ate too much.

be careful when eating large amounts of cannabis. the most intense trip of my life was from weed and I am no stranger to mushrooms, lsd, lsa, dmt.

I used just over a pound of bud trimming and smaller buds from an indoor grow cooked in a pot with water and 2 pounds of butter on a low simmer for 8 hours. got back just under 2 pounds of canna-butter after filtering and pressing.

I used a quarter pound of butter to make 12 giant peanut butter cookies, this was my first time eating weed so I ate 2 cookies and waited an hour, nothing really, I though oh great it didn't work so over the next hour I snacked on 6 more cookies.

needless to say this was a gross oversight on my part and over the next 36 hours I was out of commission.

space time and all meaning of reality went out the window, I could close my eyes and the world was still there, I remember watching in disbelief as my dog left a 45 foot trail behind him as he ran around my back yard all the while colors shifted and blossomed with a low hum, I would go in and out of being able to realize I was high, I would loose track of reality and had almost no motor control, but it was not alarming at all. I had vivid visual and auditory hallucinations for the first 48 hours and minor shifting and blooming visuals for the last 24.

the body high was insane, i would get waves of euphoria, it would start like a low rumble then all of a sudden it felt like I was falling though foam.

It was pretty amazing.

I made sure to dose smaller amounts with the rest of the butter.

Eating cannabis is vastly different than smoking it. The first and last time I ate a whole brownie (I've been debating lately whether or not I want to try edibles again though) was around 3 years ago when I was a senior in h.s. and hadn't even been smoking weed for more than 3 or 4 months. The guy that gave me the brownie told me to eat the whole thing (he didn't realize I had a very low tolerance) so I did and let me tell you I had a crazy trip. Visual hallucinations, and an incredible body high that lasted for 9 or 10 hours, I still felt a little bit high when I woke up this morning. Apparently I called the person who gave me that brownie 49 times that night, lol.

Anyways in my experience smoking cannabis is much more controllable than eating it. It just depends on what you want out of your high.
