how dangerous is it really to shoot oxy?

Ive shot oxy a few times with a mate who has been doing it for years i think but im concerned about any health problems it may cause.

can u catch pneumoconiosis from just doing it a few times or does it take many shots of oxy to potentially build up enough binders in ya lungs to cause damage?

what im worried about is i read that this desease can be potentially fatal. is it really that dangerous?

my mate used cotton as a filter btw the few times ive done it & he also cooked it up saying it helps it dissolve & im not scarred of cotton fever either just a little bit worried about anything that can cause permanent damage.

I read that the bioavailability according to BLs chart is 60-87%. so it is a bit of a loss over IV. Is there a more accurate bioavailabity?

What is the worst case scenario of doing it just a few times & what is the worst case scenario of doing it alot of times like my friend has?

If it's really as dangerous as what ive heard im going to have to have a talk with my friend!

Okay few things to cover :)

Bioavailability is not an exact science - it can vary depending on the person, stomach contents, whether you are snorting it along with a load of filler/binder or not, rectal pH.. all sorts of things. It is generally accepted that the percentage oral bioavailability of oxycodone is in the 80s however. Nasal is lower.

You don't "catch" pneumoconiosis - it's not an infection, rather a reaction in response to foreign material in the air sacs of your lungs. You develop inflammation which leads to scarring and destriction of the air sacs. It's similar to the lung condition COPD brought on by long term smoking. You develop progressive cough and breathlessness (limiting what activity you can do) and it definitely can be fatal, yes.

It is something that develops over time and the risk is higher with repeated exposure, but there is no guarantee that a few shots can't cause some damage so your best bet is to always use a micron filter not a cotton.

Micron megathread.

You should never heat pills. Oxycodone (and other opioids) are freely soluble in cold water - it might take a bit longer than if you heat it, but not much. Heating a pill just causes more of the fillers/binders/general crap to dissolve too and enter your veins.

Tell your friend not to heat the pill and to use micron filters every time he IVs a pill - and that oral bioavailability is not that much less; if he wants the instant hit then he could plug it, or snort half and eat half. Most people don't get a significant rush from IV oxycodone.

yea do not heat pills for injection. All the nasty insoluble shit in there just melts down into the shot, sometimes solidifying in the syringe. cold shot all the way. and if its something you plan on doing with any kind of regularity, invest in a micron or wheel filter, your circulatory system will thank you.

It's not only dangerous to shoot oxy, but it's completely pointless. It lasts shorter than oral, there is no rush associated with oxycodone through any ROA including IV, and is overall a shitty and wasteful experience compared to taking oxycodone orally as prescribed.

thanks guys. the longer duration looks appealing anyway. u dont get the instant effect but it would be good if it lasted longer plus it's not like u get ALL the oxy into the needle anyway. u know what i mean? like ud loose some in the prep so it wouldnt be that bigger difference from oral. just hope it's more than 60% in the 80s would be fine but theres no sources of more specific BAs I can find

BA can vary from person to person.. but in my experience it is definitely more like in the 80s than 60s :)

Shooting will waste some in the prep (in the filter etc) yes and it's much much more dangerous for very little gain - stick to eating them! :)

I did it for a few years usually filtering with cotton and I dont recommend IV'ing Oxy at all. The main reason I did it was impatience, there was no rush I just wanted to get high quickly. I have not heard of this Pneumoconiosis but now that I know what it is I fear this may be what is happening to me. Over the last few months ive had pains in my lungs/chest, a constant cough and sometimes breathlessness, im actually quite worried now. But back to your question, id say your biggest worry for doing it once would be infection. The biggest concern when doing it regularly could be one of any number of things, for me I worried about endocarditis, stroke, vascular clogs resulting in amputation/gangrene, going blind due to insoluble particles getting stuck in the tiny vessels in your eyes, veins will collapse much quicker than if you were using unadulterated drugs.... I cant think of any more just now but those should be enough to scare you away from doing it but if your like me you wont give a shit until youve already done the damage.

^ if you have a persistant cough and you used to shoot oxy without a micron/wheel filter, you should really get to a doctor and have it checked out. You may need to explain the potential risks of shooting pills though (pneumoconiosis, they'll have heard of that haha) as many doctors are unaware.

Endocarditis, stroke, gangrene, thromboembolism, collapsed veins, not to mention soft tissue infection and abscesses are all potential risks of IVing. Be careful people! <3

Will post it again as it is excellent - READ THIS!
