How Can I Thank You?

(this is a poem i wrote about 5 years ago... thought i'd dig it back out - it just seemed like the right time for it...)
how can i thank you
for all that you've done?
all the things we've done together-
cried, laughed, and had fun.
how can i thank you?
for cheering me up when i'm sad?
You always managed to get a smile out of me,
and make me forget the problems i had.
how can i thank you?
for putting up with me?
i did some things i regret,
and you accepted my apology.
how can i thank you?
i'm not sure i know how.
but as the time creeps away
we are nearing the end now.
And so we are here
standing face to face.
not sure to cry or smile,
so we start to embrace.
you may never hear from me again,
but let's just wait and see.
and as the years fade away,
please remember me.
and so as i recall our memories,
i might start to cry.
i am only human.
i dont know how to say goodbye.
