How can i tell if my kit is still good?

I got a Mecke* kit a little over a year ago, its been in a cool dark place but some of it leaked out.. so i'm not sure if thats bad as long as it doesnt touch anything.

I never really got to use it and i would like to but i'm afriad it might not be good. Are there any household chemicals that i can use to see if its still useable?

I would buy a new one but i'm not sure how long it will take before i actually use it(right now it looks like this weekend)

Do you have any DXM in cough syrup around? I always use DXM to test my marquis reagent, but it should work for the Mecke reagent as well. It's definitely always a great idea to test your kit first.

Just DXM or is Guaifenesin alright to have int here also? I'll give it a shot

I would get DXM only as guaifenesin will cause a colour change ( I believe it will turn pink? not positive though).
