How bad is APAP really?
See, I like my codeine but I'm a little careless about keeping a properly filtered dose (minus the APAP) handy. So whenever I get caught without the filtered stuff I pop about 15-20 Tylenol ones with 300mg of acetamenophin each. I read on the Tylenol site that the lethal dose of APAP is about 7g. at 20 pills that's about 6g - just under the max. However, I'm pretty sure its not doing my liver any good. So what I want to know is just how harmful a few heavy doses of APAP can get?

I've been in your boat. Taking 20 Codeine pills with 300mg of APAP in each pill, that's 6000mg of APAP you're ingesting which is too much. ESPECIALLY if you're drinking alcohol. You could probably get away with 6000mg of APAP every now and then, but it's NOT doing your liver any good. I've heard from several sources that up to 4000mg is the max you should take of APAP on a semi-regular basis, and that's without any alcohol involved. Myself personally, I've had 3200mg which I was forced to take with Soma's (I didn't do an extraction), and I woke up the next day feeling fine. So just procede with caution, and don't go over 4000mg on a daily basis. Try and stay within 1000-1500mg of APAP if you're popping these pills daily.
Of course your best bet is to do a cold water extraction on your codeine/APAP pills. Better yet, find the 50mg Codeine pills that contain no APAP! Problem solved........
Don't take my word, but I believe the "lethal" dose of APAP is around 12mg, give or take, but taking 6-7mg could land you in the hospital! So be careful!

Note that there has never been a case of acute APAP toxicity at less than 150mg/kg -- that's over 10 grams in an average 70kg person. Death becomes a possiblity at ~20 grams, but liver damage can occur at ~10 grams and above.
The poison control center -- at least in my area -- has a cutoff of 7 grams; if you take less than that, they don't have you come in.
With alcohol these numbers are lowered, but still, there's no need to worry at all about taking 6 or so grams of APAP one day!.
For other reasons (so as not to cause stomach bleeding) you shouldn't take more than 4 grams APAP on a daily basis; but exceedingly this once in a while is fine.

Honestly, APAP is not as bad as people make it out to be... you hear warnings about how taking a few Tylenol #3 will cause your liver will explode blowing a huge hole in your side - honestly, this is not the case.. you would REALLY jhave to take a lot of APAP before this is a risk... bust of course we wantto play it safe, so try to keep the amount of APAP you consume to a minimum...

I am really scared! I took 5, 5/500 APAP today and i was completely out of it i was puking blacked out for awhile, shaking, sweating buckets, the room was spinnign and i had the worst headache. the symptoms have not gona away and it had been 14 hours ago! I am scared that i am gonna die! :,( please help me in giving me ANY info on whats going on!!!!

Crankitup,
If you are serious, whatever the other ingredient you took is what caused your bad reaction. 2500mg of APAP wouldn't cause a healthy person to have a reaction like that, even with a little alcohol in the mix. It was the oxycodone/hydrocodone or whatever else was in the pill that caused it.

carnk -- You probably had a bad reaction to the hydrocodone itself. For the first 24 hours or so, there are no real symptoms from APAP overdose...

If you are honestly scared that you are going to die and your first reaction was to post here then you probably won't live too long of a life anyway. This is not the emergency room people, this is bluelight.

LOL~diffidence~!!! Yeah i am okay now but what are the symtoms of OD on Hydrocodone? i read the FAQ file on it but it said something about Hepatic?(sp) don't knoow what that is and info?

Commonly nausea, itching, drowsiness, agitation, sometimes abdominal pain at lower doses.
At higher (dangerous) doses, opioid overdoses are characterized by depressed breathing, pinpoint pupils, and unconsciousness.
Recovering from a serious overdose headache, ringing in the ears, blurred vision, and dizziness are all possible.
