My state doesn't deal with DST either, when I moved to Melbourne it took me ages to get accustomed to the time change. What the hell is the point of it anyways?

^ Daylight savings time was to help farmers in the fall/winter gain an extra hour of light for work.

Since most if it's done my machinery now there's no point to it. They've actually brought up getting rid of it a few times.
