How and with what is crystal cut?

Everytime I have seen crystal meth it has looked like small pieces of glass and clear and with close observation appears to not be cut in any way. I notice though that potency can vary somewhat noticeably. I was wondering how crystals are cut and what with? Or are they the same way they came from the lab and it just depends on the lab procedure used or do they intentionally cut it? Does anyone know?

Bet your last dollor that's incut meth. That's as good as it comes. Potency can or seem to vary though. There are different isomers (do a web search) of methamphetamine. There's d-methamphetamine, l-methamphetamine, a racemic mix d,l-methamphetamine.
l-meth is worthless for recreation. D-meth is usually prefered as it seems to pack more of a punch. d,l-meth is just fine though.
It could be a number of other things also: Placobo, whether or not the product was stored properly....

these isomers are better referred to as enantiomers.
L-methamphetamine doesn't do much on its own, but the general belief is that DL-meth is 'better' than pure D-meth, provided at least that you increase the dose appropriately.
ugh... while it's true that d-meth is D-meth and l-meth is L-meth (note the D and L should be small caps) it is not true for all substances and the labels d-, l- and dl- have been obsolete for some time - you should use (+)-, (-)- and (±)- instead. D- and L- and DL- are absolute labels given to the structure of the compound relative to D- and L-glyceraldehyde, while d- and l- were obsolete labels referring to the direction in which the compound rotates polarized light.

Roches, yes I know most of what you just corrected me on. My explanation to the poster was an attempt to simply give him a rough idea of what is going on here. And the capital D (dextro) was a typo. I hate the "this reply was edited by..." message at the bottom of posts so usually let errors go.
I've heard the term enantiomers when referring to isomers but have no idea of what it means. Care to enlighten? Maybe I'll do a websearch. Ever notice it's difficult to find chem info on the web? Search engines usually give links to chemistry exams from universties and the like. Gets frustrating.
Anyway MR. Roches, I am tweaking and just wanna say I enjoy the hell out of your posts and appreciate you for sharing your chem knowledge. Definately a huge asset to this board.

fairnymph, I've had the same explantion of cmehs that are mirror images of each other. After a few years, withought application or study, one tends to forget what words like stereoisomers means. From what you said I understand that a stereoisomer is isomer that is indeed a mirror image of it;s <lost for word> (corresponding isomer perhaps).
Eph and pseudoeph, because they are mirror images of eash other (stereoisomers) have very similar physical properites. More important however they react in the same way when...well when the go thru a chemical reaction, right?
Most street amph/meth consists solely of the d isomer
Do you know why that is? Psuedoephedrine reduces to d-methamphetamine. A while back the geniuses in Government made it much more difficult to obtain ephedrine. Most of the restrictions didnt apply to pseudoephedrine so it quickly emerged as a replacement. To this day pseudo is much easier and legal to obtain. Well, ephedrine reduces to d,l-methamphetamine, the weaker. We can all thank the DEA and other gov agencies who played a role in this for significantly increasing the quality of street meth.
P2P was completely banned and I believe is a List I. You here old timers talk of how great meth was when it the P2P route was taken. That's all nonsense as P2P yeilds d,l,-meth as well.
If you get amph/meth that is not very strong...it is probably because some or all of the product is the l isomer ? I know someone who once mistakenly made a batch of l isomer meth.
Besides using a wrong synth how could one end up with nothing but l-meth? No clandestine meth synth will put out a product of exclusive l-methamphetamine, right?
The Snitch rambles when he smokes good meth. Sorry.
