I have been getting worried about all the hospital bills I have been getting. It's all because I don't have stable place to live and I get anxeity and I try to get into the phsyc ward. Sometimes I check into the hospital and leave before I see a Dr. , other times I get test run because I think something is wrong with me. Anyway I have bout 6,000 dollars worth of hospital bills. The good news is I should be getting on disability soon, and they have medicaid, the problem is I don't know if they are going to pay off my past bills or not. I thought about ch.7 bankruptcy but don't know. Can someone help.

next time you talk with the hospital inquire about what programs they have to help people who need it (ha, who doesn't) pay for there hospital bills. I know almost all hospitals have programs, referrals to people or organizations that help, financial dept should be able to get you rolling in the right direction. GOOD LUCK.

Try calling to see if you can set up a mild payment plan. As long as you make monthly payments, it should be kept out of collections. They may need income verification for a plan, but it's worth the hassle if it'll keep it from getting sent to collections.

^ All good advice. Hospitals reduce and sometimes even write off a lot of bills that people simply cannot pay. You need to ask.

Yep, even if you only send them like 5 dollars a month it will keep from going to collections (at least in most cases). Give them what you can and they won't bother you and don't be scared to ask for help, that's what they're there for.

A few years ago I made the mistake of not calling and asking because I was too anxious to and it did end up going to collections and I was eventually sued. Please know that a simple phone call will prevent this and all the stress that goes along with it.

The amount hospitals charge is so fucking ridiculous, it pisses me off. I want to tell them to go die in filth, you cancerous plague. But i can't : |
I agree with what has been said, tell them you cannot afford it etc. And pay them $5 a month, or less exactly what they deserve.

This. Im gettin harassed everyday phone& mail bout my bills. Muhfuckas are RELENTLESS.

I went into the hospital for pneumonia. I was there for what.. 4 hours? They took a long time with my service, and the ending bill was something around 10k. 10 FUCKING k, THOSE <snip>would dare charge someone 10k to give them a little inhaler, an ekg and a check up. My service in reality should have cost around 100-200 dollars.. Fucking scum ass mother fuckers, rustling my jimmies. Luckily i wrote them a letter etc and worked out a deal so they dropped my charges

Most hospitals have programs for indigent/unemployed/low income/uninsured folks. Call the billing office, tell them the basics of your situation and they will most likely send you some paperwork which asks for info about your income, living situation, etc. Don't b.s. about anything and keep it simple. There is an excellent chance your bills will be paid or written off and you'll get no more bills or phone calls. Very common situation, just follow through with whatever paperwork they need and things will work out.
Best of luck to you.

This. Izzy said it perfectly.

Today my office was able to knock down a close to 2K bill to $300 that I can make monthly payments on. If you talk to them they're usually understanding. Sometimes if you set up an ACH from your bank account they'll give you a discount too.

Bills make me so stressed. My medical bills are becoming more manageable, but my student loan debt...that's another story :|

One thing you can call the billing department and ask for an itemized bill. I couldn't believe what some of these charges were.
Last year, the hospital billed medicaid $668 dollars for 2 tylenol tablets. Being that I live in Florida and this state has a very high
rate of medicare/medicaid fraud. I reported it to them too and they still paid it.

This is US I guess, but I feel for you. These places charge way more than what should be deemed acceptable. In Finland, I've been admitted to a hospital (mental ward) against my own will, I wasn't a danger to myself or anyone (just didn't want to take anti-psychotics) and the fuckers actually DARED to charge me money for that... more than I could afford. I talked to the hospital about it and they pretty much like "lol, not our problem. Take it to the guys at the collection if you can't pay" when I tried to ask if I could pay it in parts. Mother fuckers. It's like parking a shitty car in front of someones house and then saying they owe you 100.000 for it or whatever.

Disability/Medicaide won't pay off your past bills, I was in and out of the psych ward before I finally got approved for disability. You can however request financial aide, and if you're broke they can't make you pay what you don't have. I got several thousand dollars of bills written off just by asking.
