Honesty isn't always the best policy

I'm not losing sleep over it (unless he tells my current employer what I told him then I'll just say he offered my the job only if I blew him or something).

Are you serious ?, man you are seriously fubar. You are going to lie about something like that because someone else told the truth, so much for you valuing honesty ! Get real buddy, you don't know what you believe do you ?

That could be a disadvantage if you need an employee to be open minded, flexible, able to problem solve by thinking outside the box, be prepared to find working solutions to problems by re inventing the wheel when needed, who can listen to other team members or outside advisers and technical analysts and adopt alternative ideas and strategies.

The last thing needed in those kinds of professional environments is someone who "Digs their heels in" and insists on doing the same compulsive thing over and over again every day. What most employers look for, especially these days, is someone who can multitask, who can swap between roles, who isn't clinging to any ideas about themselves or the operational methods of business.

Dude ho lee shit. That point went entirely over your head.

I am not talking about OCD, obsessive, repetitive behaviors. I am talking about drive, dedication, and work ethic. The ability to keep at something, not keep doing repetitive behaviors and motions.

God damn idk what to say except that you missed the point in its entirety.

And FYI idk what employers you're talking about but if you think employers want people with the attention span of rodents who multitask on Facebook, AOL, and text messaging all day, you really are smoking that crystal far too much. Multitasking is overrated when you give ever task 10% of your focus vs 1 task 100%.

Yes multi tasking is useful, do not get it twisted. If you can write a doctoral thesis while watching Scrubs, power to ya.

But if you think employers now a days are alllll about multi tasking, and not people with focus, you are deluding yourself. Considering the attention span of the average citizen has been destroyed by social media, constant stimulation, and the likes, its useful to be able to keep your attention focused on 1 project instead of half assing and never finishing a dozen.

WebbyKevin you seem to be engaged in some weird psuedo psychological rants against me. Of course, I was joking, I trained as a lawyer and now how much an accusation like that could cause all parties serious problems. Do you understand, it was made in jest. The crying for help thing I thought I'd addressed and you seem to think I'm looking for a job and wanting people to feel sorry for me. Nope, I have a great job just always keeping my eyes open for opportunities. And Kevin (you don't mind if I call you kevin do you) I think it is perhaps you who are 'fubar' as you so eloquently put it. SO to summarise, just for you Kevin, I have a great job, I'm not addicted to drugs. I'm not homophobic which would have been a legitimate flame about my post but you need to perhaps take yourself less seriously and watch the friends flock to you. Don't engage with me young man I hurt with wit what I heal with morals and I do it for a living

when you tell the truth sometimes you get the truth back at you and it can suck and be a shitty ride but just except it.

You tell them you do drugs, they tell you the truth your a liability and they don't want you... well they told you the truth

Everyone is telling the truth *claps* doesn't always have a happy ending thats the truth

Captaincave, I have been been reading this thread for a couple days but reluctant to post. Sorry you missed out on this job. I don't think it's a bad thing that you were trying to be straightforward with your potential employer. Maybe you're right to say Honesty isn't always the best policy but you put yourself out there and this happens. I tend to agree with Missy up there. I believe the ADA does not tend to make allowances for alcoholics and addicts as so stated in the post with the ACLU link. If I missed something, point it out to me. It's a very grey area.

Thanks Calderone. Point that seems to be missed is that I am employed (although hate my co-workers) so I'm looking elsewhere. I've got some issues with people claiming disability for drug addiction so wouldn't cry discrimination when racial discrimination happens all the time and there's really nothing you can do about the colour of your skin. My point, is that we are all flawed as humans, admitting our flaws should be applauded although perhaps not by giving the confessor a top job!

Could we stop with the "fuck you"s? People have different opinions which is exactly what a person is looking for when they ask for advice or put something out there for other people to comment on. Yes, responding to people in TDS should always be done in a tactful and gentle manner because we come here for support, but everybody has a different idea of what tactful and gentle means; however I think we can all agree that "fuck you" does not do anything but start a mini-war in the thread which is not helpful to the OP, TDS or this discussion. Thank you and carry on disagreeing!:)

lol sorry and was reading some posts here and realized i was starting to be able to tell apart the male posts from the female ones due to small differences in writing styles, etc and it made me feel smart ^^
