Hello my name is Adam i'm 25 years old and I was released from jail 10/1/14 and placed on two years probation supervision my charge is Malicious wounding which is a class 3 violent felony. I'm from northcarolina but can not leave the state and do not know anyone in va where I am currently residing. I am homeless and I just recently found out that i'm banned from all Fairfax county shelters because of my charge. I have contacted a few outreach places like The Lamb Center, OAR and The community Services Board. Only CSB has been able to help me with free health care and mental health I don't have any form of income and I use city buses for transportation. My probation officer said I'm on a waiting list for substance abuse program and mental health treatment. Is there some way they could give me emergency housing? I have also applied for food stamps and ssi disability because I am disabled but am currently awaiting approval from other sources. I have tried OAR who put me in a motel for 4 days. I've tried CSB and FACETS. What can I do?

Well I am a nobody but I would try the churches. Since you have a Violent felony First you might want to think about what caused it and what you can do to stop it from happening again. I am not one to Judge but when you have a charge like that most people will have problems helping you because you have already proven you can and will resort to violence. So I hate to say it but you dug yourself a grave. contact a church, PROVE you have changed, and they will go out of their way to help you .

First of all, I just want to clear up the fact that this thread isn't for "homeless" people necessarily, it is simply a place to post a thread and the moderators will move it to the proper forum (A homeless thread). I think that mseals above says it well. I am not one to judge either, so I hope that you can find the help you need. If your issue is mental health, I know that with proper treatment, you can live a relatively normal life. I would go to local christian churches, they are often very non-judgemental and are usually willing to give someone in your situation a chance. Many churches have funds that they keep specifically for people in your situation, this could be a lifesaver for you. Hope this helps, feel free to PM me with further questions.

Ty mseals. I found out today with the help of csp that the shelter that OAR had called was giving us false information about me being banned from all Fairfax county shelters and therefor today I was giving a bed from a shelter for being misinformed. Yeah crazy huh... again thank you for trying to help me. Thing's are much better now that I am stable so now I can get the thing's I need to do done.

First off, I'd get out of Fairfax County if your banned from all the shelters there. Outside of Fairfax, if you would be able to get into a shelter that would be a step in the right direction. Also, work on getting a post office box if you don't have one so that there is an address to send mail to (e.g. your food stamps, disability, etc.) Whatever shelter you find will probably help you in the right direction as far as getting a job. Also, churches have soup kitchens and things of that nature that will likely help you out for now

I agree with the above advice, I would give churches a try. Most of the contemporary-type churches have outreach programs and members who are willing to go out on a limb an give people like yourself their spare bedroom for a month or so to get yourself on your feet. But you have to convince them that you are a changed person.
