Homeless help thread.

Alabama huh. Got that sweet southern accent ?;)

read up on the area and the options for if you don't have a set home yet so you know just what resources to use and have a sort of mental map of your next plan of action!

haha yeah i got a real southern accent, people make fun of me for it, when i go places like up north and out west everyone loves it lol.

ur right about the whole plan thing.
My goal at the moment is make it to Denver CO.
Everything should be set up, I just need some money to make myself more responsible, and not have to rely on others to ''pay my way for me'' kind of thing.

I need enough for rent, and half of a plane ticket. so thats around $500 to be OK, more the marryer.

Today is my day, I'm going to spend this time looking for work, have applied for a job at wallmart, sams club, mc donalds, and ruby tuesdays. i'm working on a starbucks app now. maybe more later.

so far so good, i jus have to get a job!!!

I am actually thinking about heading there myself, and I don't live far from you. If you want to try to organize something PM me. I lived in that area for years and have access to alot of resources. I'm pretty close to homelessness myself (I mean I am at the library right now...) so hit me up if you would like some advice on Denver or I can try to put ya in touch with people/resources there.

Aw good!! That's great about all the applications! My fingers are crossed for hopin you get a call back.
Do you have a phone? Grab a newspaper check out the classifieds, you'll really be suprised what may be available. Even if it is temporary say, and they need someone to carry 90lb boxes of something for a week. Any little bit helps. Also, craigslist maybe for jobs.... But be safe as always!
I am sure ya know all this though, ahah.

I know how damn f'ing hard the job market is now adays homeless OR not - but hopefully even just one of those places will have a spot for ya =) The Denver CO thing sounds great.... really nice that you have a real goal/plan that you can work toward! It always helps the present if you can have something waiting for you in the future!

Also, I digress here but- I LOVE southern accents a ridiculous amount. My ex bf /best friend is in the USMC and I would go visit him in NC all the time and so many marines are from places like alabama and louisiana and all sorts of southern. looove it.. I have hardly any cultural experience, even down to just the different states in the US, so it intrigues me, haha.
ok sorry, just me rambling.

BEST WISHES TO YA!

I think there is a big difference between being homeless and literally living on the streets. I consider being on the streets actually having to sleep outside in the cold. I'm homeless, yes, but I do have a warm place to sleep every night thanks to an organization called SHARE. I sleep in the undercroft of an episcopalian church. Its really clean and there aren't any bed bugs or other shit like that. The people who choose to sleep outside are making that choice. Usually they're addicted to something because the shelters won't let you show up visably drunk or high, and you obviously can't -get- drunk or high @ a shelter.

Thanks seduced, yeah job market does suck, and since theres gaps in my recent employment i hope it doesn't bring up red flags. well i was in college and not working so hopefully nothing will discourage them(the employers).

Thelung I know what u mean, I've spent my fair share of times in shelters, fucking sucked there but i did it. hell i might have to do it again sometime soon(hopefully not).
the salvation army here does a breath alyzer test on everyone b4 they get a bed, fucked up watching 75% of the people that came had to leave because they were drunk or been drinking. so when the salvation army is empty it sucks because that means theres more people sleeping on the streets.
you can get high in a shelter, not weed. but the other.atleast its warming up outside so sleeping shouldn't be a deal.

working on getting my shit together. things are tough for me atm, going to check out some more options i have for the day.
never give up, when things are bad keep sticking with them. i know from first hand, things still suck but i'm not going to give up that easily.
