I have read that the homebake heroin laboratories found in New Zealand obtain their morphine hydrochloride or freebase and combine it with the acid anhydride and either ignite the mixture or bake it in an oven as a reflux-type reaction. Is the former correct? Wouldn't that destroy most of the morphine? Would the ignition provide the right amount of energy for the reaction and an anhydrous environment?

I'm no chemist and I know heat speeds up reactions but I don't think burning it would be an efficient way to make heroin, some of it is guaranteed to be destroyed.

That being said i'm sorry, we don't do synth discussion here, i'm gonna have to close this.
