G.T.L. My Life Is Bro!!
So i know the "MDMA causes holes in the brain" is BS but im curios to know what to say to my friends who think that the above statement is true... Like i've told them its not true but saying "its not true" isn't the best argument lol.. I need information on it to prove them wrong.

That originated (and please if I'm wrong somebody correct me) during ecstasy smear campeigns that the government came out with in I believe the early 80's. At that time a lot of the information thay gave out was incorrect because they "accidentally" told people it would do things that other drugs do, and with inconclusive research that showed e (or another drug they mixed up with e) would do that. It was all a rouse to get people to stop doing ecstasy and in essence get rid of the drug on the streets. Grant it this is what I've been told and have read so it may be a little off, but as far as my knowledge goes. This is exactly why.

Taking MDMA too much can be damaging. Just like eating ice cream everyday can be damaging. Personally I believe that anything in MODERATION will be alright. But using MDMA too much has been linked to damage to the brain. Do you own research, inform yourself. I commend you on looking for the answers rather than believing the propaganda. I'm sorry I don't have any links for you as this is not a drug I use very often . It just isn't available much. But I'm sure BL has a lot of info. Try the search engine. :)

Lol why thank you! Actually I've done shit tons of research before even using MDMA/XTC i researched it for 2 years or so.. But i could never find anything about the "holes" lol.. I'm not like most people that listen to .gov sites xD

to explain the "holes in the brain"(i got this information from teh interwebz/videos n shit so use with discretion):
When doctors took pictures of people brains, the thermal view of the brain made it look like concaves/hot spots on different areas of the brain which led them to believe that holes were formed from ecstasy use. This view ONLY started from some indian doctor who was the FIRST to come out with this report.
HE WAS later refuted by other doctors and what not and his data was deemed irrelevant/not enough data to back up his facts.
basically, his research was a majority of assumptions, not actual tests, etc.

for more indepth, type in "mdma holes in brain myth" in google

It was documented that if a large enough dose of MDMA was taken it can cause destruction to the axons (nerve fibre) in the serotonin receptors (called a 'hole' in the brain ever since).

This study was done on Monkeys and involved injecting 10mg of MDMA per 10kg of body weight per day, every day for four straight days.

The problem was they couldnt really say how this damage was being caused - they couldnt decide if it was something in the MDMA or the bodys reaction to having such high amounts pumped into the system etc.

The argument it causes 'holes in your brain' is based on inconclusive animal experiments involving stupid amounts of MDMA - injected - over a long period.

Here is the full story if you wish to read the facts :)

^ Didn't they actually use methamphetamine in the study done to start this myth?

And the other reason this myth exists is because of oprah -_-

^not sure about the Meth but the study I was talking about was MDMA and yeah good old Oprah didnt help matters either :D

Anyone who still believes anything Oprah says is beyond hope.

And yes, there was one study done where the researcher used methamphetamine and claimed the harm done was from MDMA.
Read what erowid says about it too: http://www.erowid.org/chemicals/mdma/mdma_neurotoxicity3.shtml

And then there's what I was told in high school- that the pictures they showed represented physical holes in the brain, when the truth is that the darkened spots aren't physical holes at all, but "turned off" portions of the brain, which with rest "turn back on".

A position that wasn't reasoned into cannot be reasoned out of. If your "friends" are dumb enough to believe this myth, you're not going to convince them no matter what you say. The only way to convince them is by example. Do MDMA yourself and show them that it didn't destroy your life.

Not true, really. I used to buy into all that. I was raised as a D.A.R.E. kid and would eat up and regurgitate any anti-drug propaganda. MDMA puts holes in your brain! Weed will make you violent and lazy at the same time! LSD will make you psychotic! Shrooms are a poison! Heroin is only for hookers and deadbeats! It actually wasn't until I tried pot for the first time and realized that it was nothing like what I had been told and it was actually better than alcohol on my brain and body. After that I thought to myself "What else could they have been wrong about." Which led me to researching it for myself. So yeah, it is possible to turn around from all that propaganda, but I think it takes an open mind or a mind opening experience to start it off.

Yes, but you TRIED it. If someone is so propagandized that they refuse to even try a drug, then you're not going to talk them out of it.

Ah, I guess that's true. But you could make the information available, or knowing enough about it to have a convincing debate. It's true that there are many people out there who are set on not changing their minds, but if they give you false information as their reasoning and you correct that information, a few might just begin the cycle of questioning everything and eventually opening up to try it.

But I'd also advise against "doing it yourself" to show your friends what its like. To a sober person, a person rolling looks rather dumb and they really can't connect with that feeling. Before I ever rolled, I partied with people while they were rolling and... it wasn't ever appetizing just from the looks of it. I'm afraid that if the OP rolled around their friends to try and "show" them something, seeing their friend all wide-eyed high would just be a turn off.
