Hi

So I have been taking Kaletra and Truvada for the last four days after a possible HIV exposure. I was wondering whether it'd be okay to drink on these? The doctor was very vague, saying it wouldn't be the end of the world but they would say to avoid it. I didn't ask the cocaine question. I'm guessing this would be a big no no? I've tried looking online but can't find any information, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Your probably dont want to strain your immune system with drugs and booze at this time, but i have no idea of specific interactions. Though i would probably do them anyways to make the most of the time i had left... Bad jokes aside, i get the appeal to do it, i hope you end up all good man, but rather be on the safe side if possible.

Dude, are you serious?

What would you do if every single post in here was indicating that you had the green light? Go ahead and do it?

You shouldn't even be asking this question here, which is something I have never said in my life. You need to speak with a doctor about this, and even if they said it was fine, i wouldn't do it. Is it worth it?

Do not consume any cocaine or any other drugs unless directed by your physician while being treated for possible HIV exposure

Gotta agree. Don't. Even. Think about it. There is NO way the benefits out weigh the potential risks in this scenario.

Sure, but in defense, you must admit its pretty much the most ideally perfect situation to ensure maximum temptation to drown the sorrows and escape for a while. By strong my man.

I agree, sincerely. but i lol'd at @ this sentence.

Yeah this is a horrible idea, because the Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) as the name suggests, weakens your immunity and if you have been in contact with the virus then thats a great way to make sure you actually do catch it..

especially assuming that those meds you're taking are antibiotics? of some sort? too lazy to google, but antibiotics + booze = noooooo

lol, if it was me and i still had hope, it would now be crushed. But seriously, i guess a reality check is in order,

And the antibiotics, whats the issue, besides this case and perhaps not getting well by reducing efficacy, i find it potentiates the alcohol somewhat and perhaps even aids in the healing process. I always find i feel better when i drink while ill.

Thanks for getting back to me everyone! Reading it back now it seemed like a stupid idea to even consider it. In the end I just went along and had two beers, I probably shouldn't have but I'm not one for making sensible decisions. I spoke to a close friend who is a GP and he said two drinks really isn't anything to worry about but he strongly advised I not drink or take anything until I have finished the treatment, which is what I now plan on doing. I appreciate the responses though, thanks :)

Well done. 2 beers is the perfect number i think. It indicates the necessary caution and restraint, in line with medical advice as well, but not because you fear acceptable risk or pushing the boundaries just enough to make a point, indicated by two beers instead of only the safest option of one, which would indicate only an attempt at appearing brave, but in reality youd rather have non just to be safe, had you chosen this option. It says a lot i think. Go well man.

Glad to hear everything is working out great man.

I didn't mean to come across like an asshole. That was urgency and concern, not anything else.

No I appreciate this, I didn't think you came across as an asshole either :) Thanks again to everyone for the advise!
