High, oral doses of Methamphetamine..MDMA-like neurotoxicity?

I've been wondering for a while... Since Meth feels a lot like MDMA for me in high (100+ mg) doses when taken orally, does this mean that my serotonin axons are getting friend much like with MDMA?
I know that Methamphetamine stimulates serotonin release, specially in high doses (even if not as dramatically as with MDMA)...but when it feels almost the same, only lacking the empathy, am I doing the same kind of damage to myself? Just wondering...
 
speed causes a different kind of brain damage, more related to cognition than mood. Check out erowid.org, theres info there.
 
Do a search in the OD archive, and the Health archive -- there is a fair deal of info and discussion about meth's neurotoxicity.
Meth is indeed neurotoxic, but only minimally to serotonin neurons. Meth is more damaging to norepineprhine and dopamine neurons.
Meth is also harmful and toxic in other ways that don't directly relate to particular neurotransmitter systems.
Btw, the rush of norepinephrine is also largely responsible for making high dose oral meth feel like MDMA.

More or less, yes -- meth is believed to be neurotoxic in much the same way MDMA is, but it affects dopaminergic neurons more than serotonergic ones (the reverse is true for MDMA.) All my papers are a year+ old, but see:

Antioxidants (eg vit C) have a good chance of protecting against meth-induced brain damage, just as with MDMA.
 
Oh, yeah, and there are some threads in OD's archive that specifically discuss pre and postloading for meth. Thanks for reminding me zorn. If I recall, Selenium is particurily good for meth neurotoxicity.
Vitamin C, vitamin E, and alpha lipoic acid are always good too.
