    Welcome Guest!

High blood pressure, beta blockers and MDMA?

Yes, but I did the stupid thing and just skipped a dose. My hypertension is really tied into anxiety and my job, though (crazy, extremely long hours, a lot of stress, etc.) So on vacation, I just didn't take it. I lived through it, obviously.

I think you will be okay if you keep it to 2 pills once in a blue moon, and don't combine it with any other blood-pressure elevating drugs. I mean, MDMA isn't that heavy of a stimulant anyway. I agree with you... I KNOW we cannot be the only two people in the world that take a beta blocker and want to roll. If this was some fatal combination, I am sure there would have been clearer information out there about it.

One thing I do suggest: don't obsessively take your blood pressure if you decide to go ahead and roll. You will just drive yourself crazy. It goes without saying that your blood pressure is going to be elevated, so you're just going to get worried, make it higher, then become more worried. And of course, worrying + drugs = very bad combination. If your blood pressure gets so high that you're in danger, you probably won't feel like dancing anyway, and that will be a dead giveaway that you need to sit down and relax.

I think the safest thing to do is just follow all of the safety rules everyone preaches. Frequent rest breaks, stay hydrated, listen to your body, and make sure you have some friends that you trust to call an ambulance if something bad really does happen.

Oh yeah, and test your pills, but that goes without saying. I have no idea what piperazines will do.

I agree totally. Apart from the fact that i dont have the equipment, and really wouldnt know what to do with the information (i dont know at what levels bp can be said to be dangerously high, or if there can be any meaningful generalizations on that) it would be a major downer. I cant even imagine myself taking a break from dancing or whatever every half hour to check my bp.

If i do roll, ill try not to worry about it at all. Thats why im doing the fretting now, beforehand instead :)

Well, just to educate you a little bit (this is stuff you should probably know in general--like I said, I wouldn't bother checking it while you're rolling.):

120 / 80 is normal blood pressure.

I'm going with the diastolic number for this range, because that's when your heart is at rest, and pending some strange heart condition, this is the number I pay most attention to when I check it myself (also, I have a REALLY hard time listening to the first beat, so beats the fuck out of me what my real systolic number is...)

80 - 90 -- normal-ish, and not really cause for concern.

90 - 100 - kinda high. If you're constantly at this rate, you should probably take notice of your bad habits and see a doctor. Otherwise, spikes in blood pressure are normal.

100 - 110 - high. Something is wrong and you should see a doctor right away.

110 - 120 - really high. You need to go to a hospital.

130 - 140+ - you are probably having a stroke or heart attack.

You should probably check your BP regularly if you're prescribed medication for it. Like use one of those grocery store monitors... you don't have to go out and buy one. Just for your own sober health and safety. :)

Thanks! Never seen a bp meter in a grocery store here unfortunately. I vaguely recall seeing one in a bar once, or was it a sexo-meter, hmmm. Im thinking of getting one though, as you say, it would come in handy. Im curious to know my bp when measured at home. Apparently white-coat-syndrome can add up to 30 on the systolic number.

I am in a simular situation-HBP and I take lisinipril. I too could not find much help on taking my medicine or not. Twice a year at a festival I do Molly- I decided to take the medicine as usual. I drink a lot of water-and I don't over do it.

Good to hear from more people in the same shoes. Lisinopril seem to be a different class of medicine called ACE-inhibitors, so whats said here on beta blockers could not apply to them. You never had any problems rolling with the combination then?

That's interesting to know, though! I have never heard any information about ACE-inhibitors and ecstasy. It seems like everyone is either on a beta-blocker or a diuretic.

stoned_baby, when/if you do try this combination, be sure to post about it! I know I am going to, when the time is right. Unfortunately, we have a severe shortage of decent pills in my area at the moment...
