65 year old white male with laminechtomy/laminotomy L1-L5, cervical fusion 4,5.6, spinal stenosis and degenerative bone disease. I'm in constant pain. The pain I've learned to deal with by staying very active, losing weight, heavy protein diet, but I sleep very irregularly. It's not uncommon to go 4 or 5 days with no sleep. Horrible. Tried Zolpidem (Ambien). It worked; but I nearly burned the house down sleepwalking. Besides the obvious "stop taking it", help me with "how to's" in not killing myself.

Hey D's I think he was talking about killing himself accidentally while sleepwalking on Ambien ;)

sl0uch, I have similar problems with my back and the meds (Gabapentin) they were giving me allowed me to sleep, but I had horrible nightmares so I discontinued using them. I seldom take even OTC pain relief. It's not an ideal solution though, as you know. I may sleep, but only for an hour or two. I just find things to keep me busy during my bouts of sleeplessness, like being a MOD here and software development. I'm retired so I have a lot of time on my hand and keeping occupied is important.

I also find that smoking a heavy indica helps me sleep and takes the edge from the constant pain.

You are right about the accidental self whacking. I have guns in the house and am proficient so that could be really bad. I've only had one event. I 'woke up' but not fully, standing next to the electric stove with all the burners going on red hot. Must have been that way a while. Nearby was a wooden skivet I had apparently had on the oven as it had deep circular burns. Wife said I spoke normally, politely, quietly, but obviously I was elsewhere.
Indica has helped but again you are right, require massive amounts.
I'm a system admin/network technician. Retired as well.

Unplug the stove bud, I know it probably is inconvenient but worth it if it means a good nights sleep. Be happy you don't have gas stove, I guess.

Welcome to BL, as well. Some good people here, so don't be shy to ask for help many willing to oblige.
