After fighting my mental problems my whole life, I finally decided to go to a psychiatrist...
- My work has been suffering (I have no motivation & suck at concentrating and retaining stuff - and I'm squandering a lot of really good money by simply not working)
- My relationships have been suffering (my sleep schedule is random so I end up sleeping through the day and this pisses off friends, family, and significant others)
- I'm pretty depressed in general (feel a lot of shame for being a loser) but I think I might be a bit more bi-polar than simply depressed
I'd been diagnosed with ADHD twice in the past, suicide attempt, diagnosed bi-polar, diagnosed chronic depression. But I never took any of it really seriously until recently.
Anyway, I'm trying to get on the correct med combo.
- I think I need something for work (I'm thinking adderall or something similar - suggestions?)
- Something to get me to sleep at a regular time and get a full night's rest
- Something to balance my mood
So I go to the nurse practitioner today and she sends me home with some Abilify samples (for concentration and bi-polar) and a prescription for trazodone (for sleep).
I was pretty excited until I googled Abilify and saw a billion horrible reviews for it and I couldn't find much (if anything) on it helping with concentration and/or motivation. It just seems like a run-of-the-mill anti-depressant.
And the trazodone seems like a crappy anti-depressant that doubles as a crappy sleep pill.
I was pretty excited when I left the office, but now I'm pretty upset that I just wasted $300 on stuff that won't really help (it might help with my depression which would help with other things, but I was pretty excited about getting something like adderall).
Anyway, I've never really done pills or anything recreationally or even pills that were prescribed to me (had a lot of friends/family get addicted to them...). Thoughts on my first psychiatric experience? Do the prescriptions seem legit or did she screw me?
I'm going to give it a chance, but I'm worried and want to be knowledgeable for my next appointment.
Thanks guys, I'll keep you posted on my progress.
