heroin/methadone od/paralysis

My son is currently in hospital with after overdosing on a combination of heroin/methadone and blues. Before being found he had attempted to get up from his computer desk wher he had passed out, his leg felt 'dead' then and he fell onto the floor, his head resting on his forearm. He may have lay in that position for upwards of 10hrs b4 being found. He has been left with total paralysis in his left leg and his right arm and limited mobility in his right leg. It has been 4 days and there is no improvement. Has anyone heard of anything similar happening?
 
Yes, I have heard of something like this. Check out this link. It is about radial neuropathy, which may be what is going on here.
 
No problem. I am sure that the doctors at the hospital with either confirm or deny that it is radial neuropathy. I am pretty sure that it needs months of rehabilitation depending on its severity.

Why are you asking people on a bulletin board? You need to take him to the hospital and talk to the doctors. He's going to need physical therapy at the very least.. They aren't going to arrest him.

Seriously, what is your problem? You're the parent, right? Act like one.

Take the phone, go through the room, get a large floor safe and lock up all of your valuables and money, write the combination of said safe on a boring book with a page you'll remember, take his car keys, keep people from coming over, et cetera.

Because guess what? It takes a lot more than that to deter a junkie. And really, it would be a LOT better to detox him in a professional facility.

Been there, done that.

He's got a lot of problems right now.. . he needs to detox, he needs to get physical therapy, he needs professionals to talk to, and on and on.
 
^ How's about you read the original post. Her son is currently in hospital. And like other posters have said, sounds like "Saturday Night Palsy", fairly common in non fatal opiate overdose.
 
^I think Love In Vein understands the situation and was just trying to convey his view on the difficulty of the situation by using strong language. That being said judgment and condescension help no one and asking what the OP's problem is might be crossing the line. So long as everyone realizes we are all looking out for one another though and that tough love can be used to light a fire under one's ass we'll all be alright.
