Ok, I usually find it hard to enjoy the initial rush for fear that I've had to much.
I always taste first then inject the rest after a minute.
I never go overboard and If I did have to much I would prob only be boderline.
With that in mind how do you know the difference If maby I should assistance. It takes a good minute for me to feel the full effects.
If your ok for the first few minutes are you home free. If you feel yourself fighting very hard to stay awake is this a sign to get on the phone or is it a case of if you did overdo it you just won't be awake to worry about it, to late?
I ask so that I can enjoy it more and also to be a bit more knoledgable about what to look out for in your first taste (remember I seems to take a good couple of minutes for me to feel the full effect.
Any input but appreciated, or expand on the question cause I'm pretty stoned right no and hope this makes sense.
(by the way, not injecting by myself isn't an option for me).

"fighting very hard to stay awake" -> this's not a
OD symptom. That's a regular smack side effect.

I don't know much about heroin, but I would suggest maybe doing it with someone present, so just in case something happens, there will be someone there. Sorry if I wasn't much help.

Well, typically the easiest way to find the proper dose is to figure out how much you can comfortably snort. Then shoot half that amount.
It's definantly better to have someone around to assist you the first couple times you inject.
It generally takes me about 30 seconds to feel the full effects, but you should feel the rush as soon as you're done pushing down the plunger.
If you're not feeling the rush right away, it's possible that you're missing the vein.
When you pull back on the plunger, you shouldn't just see a big blob of red slowly enter (meaning you're in a muscle), but instead the blood should shoot into the syringe and make something looking like a mushroom cloud(meaning you're in a vein). If you pull in air, you're not in a muscle or the vein and you're just under the skin which is painful if you shoot that way. If you pull in air but the needle is deep in your arm, pull the needle out a little bit.. if the needle is mostly out of your arm, push it in.. when you hit the vein the air pocket will suck the blood in.
I actually like to leave a little pocket of air at the tip of my needle, I think it makes it a lot easier to find the vein.
As for what you were saying about fighting to stay away, that's pretty normal. You should also itch profusely. And if you don't have a high tolerance, you'll probably ramble a lot when you talk.
When you get some practice and learn the strengths of your batches, you'll be able to adjust the dose a little better. I usually like to do just enough that I might feel a little drowsy, but I'm not fighting sleep or nodding out... most of the time I'd rather spend my high being awake unless it's late at night.

Thanks for reply soviet, imformative as always. I'm definitely hitting the vein, (crimsom cloud ..wahlah..), the rush hits in about 30 secs but can't gage full strenght for 1 to 2 minutes)
I guess I'm prob just paraniod which isn't always a bad thing. I guess just want reassurance that laying down closing eyes and enjoys initial rush/nodd isn't toooo dangerous.
At the moment I always make myself walk around for the first few minutes.
By the way does anyone else feel like their ears are popping in the first few minutes, kinda weird????...
Not that new banged a good dozen times, not huge but not novice either.

shoot a small amount first then see how that feels.
there is no standard "scale" to measure how strong heroin is
always have someone watch you

Just my .02c. First it always seems to take forever after I shoot for it to hit me. Probably all psychological I think it does hit in 30secs but I always expect it to be shorter.
Secondly there IS an obvious standard scale of how strong heroin is...its purity. If you have a mix that is 2/3 heroin and 1/3 cut then...guess what..you injected 3/2s the amount of pure heroin you would normally inject. Unfortunately there is no easy way to measure the strength.
Finally it isn't true if you are fine for the first couple minutes you are home free. Alot of times the breathing depression can wait like a 1/2 hour or hour to really kick in, however, if you are experienced you should be able to judge the strength fairly quickly.
A friend with naloxone is of course the safest thing. Even tho H ODs often take a long time to kill you often you are passed out and unable to help yourself.

I just wanted to make a small point, if you ever do find yourself doing heroin in an unfamiliar setting/place make sure you do less than you are accustomed to (especially if you are used to doing it in the same, familiar location) because it can have a much stronger impact in an unfamiliar location, in my pyschology class the teacher said that many overdoses are caused by a junkie shooting up in an unfamiliar location. This effect is the same for some other drugs, especially alcohol.

I don't think there's any way to tell you're going to OD before it hits. If I feel really sleepy right after the shot, I know it's going to be strong, but not necessarily an OD. The one time I actually came close to OD, I remember feeling fine for ~5 min after the shot, and then just passing out and waking up an hour later with a terrible headache. So I'd keep on as you've been doing if you're injecting alone -- better safe than dead. If you have a friend around, esp if they have nalox, you can worry a little less, since they can monitor you if you fall asleep.
