Hey y'all, I know this is a sensitive topic...but, my husband is a recovering heroin addict. He has been clean for about 15 years. He was a heavy duty user (plus tons of ecstasy).
My question is: has anyone experienced erectile dysfunction as a result of prolonged heroin abuse? I am starting to feel like it is me that is not turning him on... It has always been an issue. He is on meds that usually work, bu when they don't Im the one who feels inadequate, like im not turning him on...
Thanks for reading...

Hi there,

I haven't heard of it as a specific thing, but a lot of things can cause erectile dysfunction. Has he been to see a doctor about it? How is his state of mind? Depression is one of the causes, and this certainly can occur after heroin addiction - I know it is a long time after, but you say the issue has been ongoing for a long time so it may never have been treated. If your husband hasn't seen a doctor, I recommend he does to get himself checked out for some of the possible causes. There are physical things that can cause it, but psychological causes are very common and the whole situation itself can make it worse as he is probably feeling quite anxious and upset himself, which in turn can exacerbate erectile dysfunction. Are you able to speak to him about this? If it does have a psychological cause, some couples benefit hugely from therapy.

Try to stop thinking he isn't attracted to you - there are so many other things that could cause it and I am sure he wouldn't have stayed with you for this long if that was the case :) Good luck! <3

Thank you so much fir your reply, Effie. No, i don't bring it up much, he is very sensitive about it and I feel like when I bring it up it makes it worse.
I just severed a 20 year relationship with pot, so I am sort of learning how to live a sober life, I can only imagine how he has overcome that...
I just started seeing a therapist for various reasons, I have brought it up to her. May e we should seek counseling. Thanks again:)
