So I've been withdrawing all day and finally gave in and decided to try to rinse my spoon. Used a new cotton and clean syringe. I finally find my vein (crook of my left arm) and push in immediately feeling better. Then all of a sudden things turn for the worse. I get a sudden onset of nausea, and out of no where can't breathe! I sit still taken off guard, trying to suck in a breathe. My heart starts to race painfully and my head begins to pound harder and harder. Finally when I think I'm about to pass out and die, the symptoms begin to alleviate, my breathing still feeling slightly labored and my stomach cramping. it's been about fifteen minutes now and I'm feeling ok minus a headache. Just scared now and wondering wtf happened!

Edit: Cotton I used was a cig filter, if that makes any difference. Also spoon rinse was from previous days roxycontin dose.

You injected an unknown and possibly dangerous substance different to the one you were expecting.

Elaborate? Rinse was from roxys I had done a day previous. Just don't ever want to experience this again if I can help it, and want to make sure I'll be ok..?

Wait, what did you IV exactly? More oxycodone?
Please be more specific and detailed. How many mgs did you IV? Did you use correct IV technique?
Also, did you wash and sanitize your hands and arms, use a new syringe, use an alcohol swab on the injection site, filter correctly, etc etc?

when you reuse a cotton/cig filter that has been sitting around for 24 hours, was most likely moist when you left it there, you're exposing yourself to whatever decided to make a home out of that moist cotton. bacteria is everywhere, we have no way of knowing exactly what you injected, but chances are it was something microscopic and nasty. I never do rinses. when I used to do dope my friends would argue over who gets the rinse, the amount of drug left over is negligable, for some people the action of injecting anything gives them relief. I suggest if you must do a rinse you do it immediately after your shot, I've heard of people hording used cotton filters so when they run out they will have 30 rinses worth of dope to do, that is just asking for trouble because those cottons if not stored in impeccably clean conditions will be a cesspool of microorganisms by the time you get around to doing them.

a mod on here. I forget who, either captain.heroin or tricomb I think suggested instead of doing the rinse saving thing, you save a little pinch of whatever drug you're doing every time you do a shot, enough to not effect the high you get but still add up over time to be a substantial amount when you need it. I'd suggest doing this instead of doing rinses especially after you just witnessed first hand why it's a bad idea. if you still want to hold onto a filter over night, bag it and put it in the freezer.

What down said. Back in my dope doing days i would stupidly do rinses pretty often. Eventually it caught up to me one day and i had a terrible bout of cotton fever. I was sick all night. The rinse didn't get me well, and all it did was give me cotton fever making things worse. I suffered until the morning when my friend brought me some suboxone, which made me feel much better. It sucked though. Rinses are worthless anyway man, unless you purposely leave some of the solution in the cotton (something i used to do in the past, stupidy, i might add) the amount you get from it is barely anything.

If you feel the need to do rinses, do them relatively soon after you take your shot. I'm going to say within an hour or so(really you should just do it right after your shot..) putting a time limit on how long you let it sit and collect bacteria will minimize the amount of nasty you inject when you do the rinse. Honestly though if you feel you're losing some then do a rinse immediately after your initial shot. Saving it for tomorrow isn't going to cure you of dopesickness anyway...

I read that post. I could have sworn it was swimmingdancer.

I did the cotton saving thing one time and will never do that again.. got bad cotton fever from it.. was shaking so bad that I thought I was going to die. As far as rinses go.. I do them.. but definitely do them directly after my shot.. saving it for the next day is asking for trouble.

Cotton fever, this is why I never recook/rinse filters and inject. Just save them and chew them. It's extremely easy to get cotton fever from reusing old filters. Please just don't do it, the amount you save is not worth the risk of this horrible experience in my oppinion.
