Help with wierd drug ID

I was talking about various drugs with this guy i know and he told me about some drug that either contains or releases a chemical in your brain that is naturally released when you die. He couldn't remember what it was called. I also don't know if this belongs in the psychedellic forum or not because i don't know the nature of the drug.
I don't know where he heard this, or if it is bogus or not.
I have ran searches and browsed through erowid and couldn't find anything.
Any info on this be nice

i don't know what the drug is, but i've heard what you're talking about...it also happens when your brain is under a lot of physical stress and is actually the cause for near-death experiences...when people have near death experiences, they're actually hallucinating (at least according the report i read)...it's happened to astronauts when they're training for the extreme g-forces of space flights...hehe, might be a pretty scary trip though!

So is DMT released by the brain, or does DMT cause the release of another chemical? Does anyone know of any resources that describe this "Death Chemical"?

im not sure about any online sources but the book "DMT:The Spirit Molecule" by Rick Straussman touches on the topic discussed here. its a very good read, for so many great reasons.
