SWIM is 23 years old and has been diagnosed with prostrumatic stress disorder. Ive taken Valium which was somewhat effective but now my doctor switched me to 2mg Xanax xr. After taking one orally swim felt slightly less anxious. Then he took two more orally and about 1:30 hour latter felt really good for about an hour. the question is what method would hit harder faster since i would like to stop the panic attacks as soon as they start. I would consider parachuting, he tried sublingual with very little affect, he also tried crushing them up and swallowing them with little affect. would crushing them up and then doing sublingual help. Also would taking one beer or jack & coke help? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as im leaving for school tomorrow.
Thanks

Don't use SWIM in this forum. Don't drink alcohol with your benzodiazepines. Don't crush, snort, parachute, or put Xanax XR under your tongue as it defeats the purpose of the medication. If you want to take it this way, ask your doctor for immediate release (regular) Xanax.

Xanax XR is designed for once a day dosing because its effects last up to 12 hours. You can call it a spoof of clonazepam. Xanax XR releases part of the medication into your system immedietely upon ingestion and the rest is released slowly over the period mentioned.

If Xanax XR is not effective for your panc disorder, ask for a dosage or medication adjustment.

If you want to take it this way, ask your doctor for immediate release (regular) Xanax.

This, the time release formula is typically ineffective for treating sudden reoccurring panic attacks. I'm going to have to close this, as we can't offer advice about what to say to your doctor to get put on the medication you need, even if it is for legitimate reasons.

Any questions, feel free to PM. Also, start a tread back up after you speak with your health care provider and let us know how you're doing.
