Help with sleepers, which ones?

When prescribed for insomnia, the dose of Seroquel is typically 25mg which is a long way short of the dosages used when treating bipolar disorder and to a lesser degree depression. I am prescribed Seroquel 100mg nightly, have been for years, but I never take it. But occasionally when I get desperate and there's nothing else around I'll take a quarter of a tablet (25mg) and it'll put me to sleep and I won't wake up groggy. If the OP took 100-200mg of Seroquel without a tolerance then I'm not surprised he hallucinated and found the experience unpleasant. Try taking 25mg and see how you go.

Having suffered from insomnia, amongst other things, namely chronic anxiety, I have yet to find a better alternative to either Seroquel or Avanza that isn't a benzo. And to be honest, they're not substances that "feel" healthy.

I was prescribed temazepam for insomnia about 2 years ago. I used that every now and then when sleep just wouldn't come to me, but lately I've been using Valerian Root made by Blackmores and that's been really good. I wake up feeling refreshed and no where near as drowsy as I used to feel on benzos.

Some of the above people made some really good points though. I think it mostly comes down to getting your body into a routine and consistently going to sleep at the same time each night. I know this isn't always easy though (young children, pesky wives/husbands, shift work etc.)

i can attest to that. after dosing last night i got a good proper sleep and woke up feeling fine and refreshed - no residual side effects such as drowsiness that i get from benzodiazepines, diazepam in particular.

I found Valerian useful the first time as well. It stopped working for me very quickly though, even at higher than recommended doses it didn't work at all after a very short time.

Yes he has tried Valerian forte, but it didn't do the trick. I'm guessing tolerance? I dunno. His tolerance would be down now though, he was still using a bit when he did try it and has since cleaned up a lot. Maybe we could try it again.....

what's the worst that can happen? it not work. ]

it's not like he'll become dependent on it:)
