Hi, I've come to this forum under advice from my drug and alc professionals. I'm looking for some support to quit addiction to codeine painkillers. I have a history of addiction, and have been in recovery from alcohol (and previously dope) for over two years now. Am feeling very rattled by my relapse into a new substance and could really do with some support to help quit. Familiar with recovery obviously but this is whole new terrain and I'm just not sure where to start. Lots more could be said but I'm not really that sure what and where to be posting just yet. On day 3 and feeling like using.

Welcome to Bluelight Pink Lotus. I'm going to move your thread over to The Dark Side where you'll be able to get more input and support. Something that could really help you out is the NoBENDER thread. It doesn't matter if you haven't been sober for the whole month, you can still join now. Lots of people know what you're going through and are going through similar situations and will be able to help you out.

I wish you all the best. <3

Hi Pink Lotus, welcome to Bluelight! Always nice to see another Aussie sign up! :)

If you are looking for support then a really good place to start is The Dark Side, there are many very supportive posters over there and the whole forum is geared towards helping people through hard times. Please do read the triggering guidelines before posting, just so you don't accidentally post something that may jeopardise someone else's recovery from addiction.

As an Aussie you might want to check out the Quitting/Tapering Thread in Australian Drug Discussion.

I have to ask, were you just eating OTC codeine pills or have you been performing cold water extractions (CWE) on the pills? Eating enough OTC pills that contain ibuprofen or paracetamol to maintain any sort of opiate habit is EXTREMELY unhealthy for your insides and if you ever use codeine again and haven't been performing CWE already, I can't stress how important it is that you start. For information on CWE check out the Cold Water Extraction Mega Thread & FAQ and the Codeine & CWE Megathread.

You are doing really well making it to day 3 and I hope you stay strong and don't use! I know it is really tempting but you have come a long way and you ought to tough it out the end. I know it is easier said than done but good luck!

Thanks so much for the welcome and info. I'll check out the links. I can't tell you how relieved I am to have made contact.

To answer, I posted a bit of a longer post in another area where I outlined my particular situation in more detail. Perhaps this should be moved to the Dark Side thread also? A few weeks ago I did read about CWE's and got scared into taking that route. Was too scary in itself though, so I tried to quit, went away, did a withdrawal and tried to stay stopped. Unfortunately it didn't end there though so I am back to ingesting the pills without CWE.
Unfortunately I've relapsed today ... but have taken considerably less 2g APAP ... still not great I know ...

Addiction is a struggle but please Pinky do CWE's on your codeine if you use it again. Use this link if you need advice on doing a CWE but please extract it as it is not worth doing potential lifelong damage for codeine fix.

Good luck with it & just remember that everyone stumbles when learning to walk so don't be too hard on yourself mate.
