Hi BLers I decided its time to do this the right way and get suboxone now that there are now generics and kick benzos. I've been taking 1 to 3mgs of klonopin for a little over a year. I'm not prescribed them but was getting scripts of a close friend. Would it be possible to find a sub doc that will help me ween off kpins with Valium?

By the way I have been dependent on opiates for 4 years I'm 20 years old and was using oxymorphone and heroin And hydromorphone IV and started to get bupe strips off the street for about 7 months. I was shooting the bupe until a month ago and kicked the needle and started water lining it.

Thank you I have 58 1mg klonopin but scared to death no bupe doc will help. I'm being trained in managent for a company I'm working for at the moment and want to kick the benzos and legally be on smt

Well when I was on suboxone I had a hell of a time being prescribed clonazepam-it took months for me to convince her that I really benefited from it and didnt want to get arrested scoring benzos off the streets-she eventually conceded. However, about 7-8 months later when I confessed that I had continued to buy alprazolam/Xanax and additional clonazepam off the street as well as what she had prescribed me (which wasn't shit really), she refused to give me enough Valium or clonazepam to help me taper off. She said that in combination with suboxone the high amounts of clonazepam or Valium she would need to prescribe me to start off on a taper would kill me and that she refused to assist in my suicide (btw, i only asked her if she could raise my clonazepam dose from 1mg/day to 2x2mg/day-strangely enough she used that line a few years down the line when I asked to be on Vyvanse or even Modafinil). She ended up giving me 2mg of clonazepam and insisted the only way possible to kick my 10mg Xanax +1-2mg clonazepam habit was to enter this 2 week inpatient detox program where I could be monitored around the clock and weened off with lorazepam injections that would be given every couple hours and titrated until I was free of benzos.

I stupidly took her advice and got into the detox facility after 2-3 weeks or so-however it was very different from what she described. They just started me with 4mg clonazepam/day and brought me down to .25mg within a week, after which I was informed by my counselor that my insurance wouldn't cover anymore time and that I was lucky he had won me enough to 'kick the benzo's!' -Which within 48 hours I reluctantly went bak to because I couldn't sleep and I was having tremors which made my hands almost useless.

So that's my experience with my old sub doctor and her take on benzos. Hopefully your situation will turn out to be more reasonable-just be prepared to be told you need to go to an inpatient detox to kick the clonazepam because a lot of suboxone doctors are weary of prescribing any benzo to opiate addicts. I would make sure to save as many of thee clonazepam you have left just in case you don't get the news you want to hear-a year of taking 4mg of clonazepam is going to take a while to taper off of if you want to really beat the things. Good luck to you man and I hope your doctors a compassionate one.

Yeah I've known some sub doctors who were a lot more free with the benzos, and some who didn't want anything to do with them. It really just depends on who you get.

I also really wouldn't advise attempting to detox from opiates and benzos at the same time.

God damn the last thing I need is inpatient detox when a simple doctor could help me taper off with say Valium. I'm worried this is going to fuck a lot of shit up that I've worked so hard for

Also I'm not trying to kick both at the same time just legally be on suboxone maintenence and just kick the benzos and I'm worried no doctors will take me since I'm dependent but what I need is for a doc to help me with a Valium taper

Well, its definitely possible that you will have a different experience than I did, because you'd be going in there already dependent on the benzodiazepines. Also, the fact that you chose to switch yourself to suboxone, even without prescription, shows maturity and some dedication to actually wanting to get clean..Some people say fuck it and go back out and shoot dope if they can't afford subs but you chose to use them regardless, even if you weren't getting them through proper channels (just, you know, don't let on that you were injecting them for a good portion of the time). I would think that you're in a much better position than others would be to get prescribed suboxone, and a Benzo'-for the sake of tapering, than many others.

Go to a state run detox (they should have it in your state) tell them you have no insurance and have them wean you off opiates, and tell them about your benzo problem. Benzo W/D will take longer (espiecially klonopin), and klonopin W/D for me would take about 3 days to even get rolling; sometimes a week for some people.

Do a long, spread out W/D from klonopin; I was on them for 9 months and cut in half everyday; I would cut in half every few days, then proceed.

I have to warn you that klonopin w/d for me was terrible, but I was doing 4mgs a day, just stick it out and you should feel fine in about 2 weeks. Good luck and congrats for wanting to get clean it seriously pays off!

Thank you everyone for your help and kind words. I called a couple sub docs none would work with me, so it looks like I'm on my own on this one

I have about 50mg about clonazepam I just dropped my dose to .75 3 days ago and going to hop down to .5 in a couple days. Is there anyway I can safetly do this without being in danger for example seizing at work when I jump off.

I can't get any diazepam only alprazolam which I'm sure is worthless for tapering.

I just want to finally get myself on bupe (legally) and do this right so tired of having to go everywhere with a needleless syringe squirting bupe in my nose

Well if you have severe muscle spasms you may find a dr that will prescribe valium for them I take them for that my sub dr had no problem giving me those he said valium is a benzo that goes well with subs in low doses and the benefits outweigh the risks. You do need to be careful when mixing but it sounds like you are commited to getting clean. If you are commited you need to get rid of the benzos first. Stay with the subs and dont taper those while you are tapering the benzos. You are setting yourself up for failure if try to do all this at the same time. I have been in your shoes b4 take it slow and get stable on the subs and then start working on benzos.
