Hey everyone, on Monday and Tuesday I has flu like symptoms but it was only really bad for one day. Last night I was went to the toilet about 4 times in a 2 hour period and today I've been twice and I need to go again. My stomach has been cramping and it is really uncomfortable. Should I go to the chemist to get something or to the doctors? I think it could be dangerous if I dehydrate but I am about to have some rehydration stuff.

Help! This is so uncomfortable!

im just going to suggest taking 10ml of olive leaf extract at morning and night, it does wonders for your immune system

maybe look into taking pro-biotics with food as well? someone else could comment

DO NOT USE IMMODIUM. You're having diarrhea because your body is trying to purge something bad for it. Immodium prevents it from coming out, and if it's serious your pain will get worse.

Keep drinking electrolytes, and eat plain food if you can. Sounds like you might have food poisoning if it came on fast, which means it will be done within a day.

idk, immodium has definitely helped me out in similar situations

just tossing out random theories here.... maybe the immodium allows your body to get the toxins placed into a nice solid turd that you can then easily expel? immodium is definitely not a permanent solution, but if the symptoms are uncomfortable enough then a dose or two of immodium could provide the body some much needed relief from physical stress. would also allow his body to hold onto fluids for a bit longer, to save up for one big flush out when the immodium wears off.

diarrhea

So, do I need to go to a doctor? I have had pretty consistent diarrhea for around a year. It may be IBS. I have had some pretty extensive anxiety for a while. It is not liquid, but it is very soft and loose and I get stomach aches throughout the day and then all of a sudden have to go to the bathroom. I lived in the woods for a while and drank live water - I had a c. diff infection that I had treated with antibiotic.

It is really bothering me, however i just started a new job at a computer firm and i am on a 3 month probationary period, so taking off to go to the doctor is hard. should I go to urgent care?

also, this problem stays the same regardless of my diet.

many times, the stomache ache is caused by gas, and I can just pass the gas and it goes away. but soon more gas will come..

You need to go to a doctor. The symptoms you are describing are pretty common in IBS patients but they can also be related to other conditions, like Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis. However, if it were IBD, your diet would definitely have an effect on your symptoms. Doctors recommend that you slowly change your diet, one item at a time, to identify which particular ingredients make you ill.

Couldn't agree more! I have IBS and what you have does sound similar to what I struggled with for a very long time. I didn't go to see a doctor for three years and it got so bad, I could not believe how unbearable the pain was (at first, there was no pain, but, slowly, cramps got more and more painful). I then got treatment and now, after three more years, I have it under control and it's even slightly getting better. Go see a doctor, don't wait until more and more symptoms get added up and until you will be in so much pain, that you will need opiates to soothe it... Treatment can tremendously help. I wish I didn't wait so many years before I got it checked out...

Chronic diarrhea is not something to ignore. You can get massive dehydration, life-threatening electrolyte and acid-base disturbances, and chronic malnutrition from this. People died of severe diarrhea all the time in the olden days.

I suspect that the problem that started with you drinking unclean water and getting C.diff isn't over. What antibiotics were you put on? Chances are your normal colonic flora (bacteria, actually) have never been properly restored since then. Who knows what you've got living there now. In any case, I'm pretty sure your treatment will involve probiotics, in addition of course to electrolyte and water repletion.

probiotics don't seem to help.. i have tried yogurt and kombucha... i was put on some antibiotics for the c. diff but never finished them...

^ Generally speaking, not finishing an antibiotic course is worse then not taking an antibiotic at all. What you can potentially do is not finish killing off the harmful bacteria, with the only ones left to repopulate being the hardiest ones. You may need to see a doctor again, and be put in a new course of something stronger, depending what your stool sample shows. And if this is what happens, take the entire course.

I have made a doctors appt in 2 weeks as thats the only time I could get off.... out of curiosity for those that have experiance with IBS, chrons disease, etc...
(sorry for the grotesque fecal conversation hehe but...) My feces is not liquid diahrea (usually - sometimes it is) but I poop VERY often - almost way more than I am eating it seems, I'll go, empty my bowls and 20 minutes to a few hrs later I have to go again, which usually begins with gas.

Now, my usual feces is not liquid, but is very soft and loose, and feels like it comes out like one normal chunk (and if I take loperamide it comes normal) but usually when I go, it is very soft and comes out in little seperate enlongated chunks, like maybe 1" to 2" long, and a bunch of them... and its not like I squeeze one out, then squeeze another and another, its one hard squeeze and it comes out in a bunch of those, almost like there is something chopping the feces into smaller equal sized pieces.. it is so soft that when i flush and the water swirls, it turns into almost a powder and mixes in the water..

whats this sound like?

Hi,
JUst curious, did they test your stool before dx as c-diff? Often people get Giardia from camping etc. They both can use Flagyl to clear it up but the dosage might be different. And they should have tested your stool after the antibiotics. ( in the hsopital you need 3 clear stools to be considered clean from C-diff) C-diff can be hard to clear up so you want to make sure you dont' need a different antibiotic etc.

When you see your doc you might want to ask about an anti spasmodic pill. Buscopan is awesome to ask about. It's OTC in Australia. IN North America it's RX. It really stops the cramping and can make IBS more livable. I don't think it's something that people abuse, it just works nicely for that crampy feeling. The docs do not always suggest it, but you can ask about it if you like.
(I could be wrong about it's potential for abuse, since I've been reading these boards I've read about things being abused that I would never have thought of.)
A colonoscopy is a definitive dx for many bowel things. Other than the prep which is a drag the test itself is a breeze. Everyone I know who has had one has been put out with light sedation (meaning you are not intubated). Often they use propafol, ketamine and fentanyl or whatever favorite combination of the docs. You are monitered so there are no Michael Jackson like accidents with the propafol, etc. You are asleep and wont' remember a thing. I always figure if they put me out they can do what they like.
Good Luck, for sure go to the doc and get some real answers.

If you are bored you can try going gluten free to see if that helps any. There are lots of websites if you google it and can get recipes etc.

^ Scopolamine? I don't think that's got much recreational merit on its own, unless you're into anticholinergic delirium, which most people aren't. I think you're confusing this with Lomotil, which is an opioid that crosses the blood brain barrier in small amounts and has euphoric (but not painkilling) central effects, and is prescription-only in the US but OTC in many other countries. OP, I do not recommend you take any anti-motility agents of any drug class until you've had your stool analyzed to make sure you don't have fulminant bacterial or protozoan infection in your gut. The last thing you want is to trap those germs and their toxins in you to the point where your colon is destroyed beyond repair. Just be sure you're repleting the electrolytes (especially potassium) and water you're crapping out, while the lab figures out what your colon is running from, pun intended.

Oh well, that's definitely not what my friend has experienced during his colonoscopy. He was not sedated at all. He nearly passed out from the pain.

Wonder if it's different in Canada? I've had endoscopy/colonoscopy done twice since 1999.
Both times they put me out. Getting no sedation seems just inhumane to me. (I'm in Florida)

Here are the symptoms of Diarrhea which helps you to identify it when you are facing this problem.
Diarrhea creates its existence known with the urgency, regularity, and number of your visits to the bathing room. You know that it’s diarrhea when you pass loose, watery stool two to three times a day or more. These other signs can also indication diarrhea:

Cramping
Stomachloating

High temperature
Vomiting
