Hey all,

This is my first time posting. I looked around and hope this is the right place to put this question.

I am prescribed 3 a day 60mg Oxycontin for brain and spine tumors. Have had 8 brain surgeries in the past ten years. Anyways, my pain doc at a cancer hospital gives me a urine test to make sure I am taking my meds and not running out early. The test checks espically for Oxycontin. And then they send it down to the lab to be tested. They don't check it in the office.

Anyways, I did run out early but saved one. I chewed it up (op's are not hard to chew) on Wednesday at 12 noon. My urine test was the very next day at 11am. So all I had during that time was one 60mg oxy and a bunch of narco, which I am also prescribed. Will the oxy show up? I tried not to drink much so I wouldn't flush it out. I should have saved two, but you all know how that goes.

Thanks for any help.

Ps: I know its too late now but figured I would ask so I can prepare myself when I go back on Thursday.

The oral half life of oxycodone is between 3 and 4.5 hours, so you would still have it in your system within 24 hours.

My fault, should have explained that. Essentially it means that every 3 to 4.5 hours, half of the drug is eliminated from your system. For example, if you consumed 60mg, then somewhere between 3 and 4.5 hours later, you will have 30mg remaining, between 6 and 9 hours you will have 15 mg remaining, and so on....so therefore you should have traces of it in your system after 23 hours, maybe not a lot, but it will be there.

You should be fine if it's just a positive/negative screening test. The stand alone oxy tests have a lower detection threshold than the standard opiate panels. If they test your actual levels, you might have some explaining to do though as they'll be lower than expected.

Awe well now you guys have me worried. Doesn't sound like much, if any, would still be in my urine. I am so mad at myself. Stupid me couldn't save two pills.

Right before she did the urine test, she asked me what time it was I took my oxycontin that morning. Well since I actually didn't have any left but I knew why she was asking, I told her I had just taken it. That way not enough time to show up in my urine.

I am not too worried about the levels. I can always tell her I took one the day before the urine test and went to visit some friends all day and forgot my pills at home. Got back late and went straight to bed. Therefor only had one oxy the day before the urine test. She'll believe that. I just want it to show up.

Will report back here on Thursday. Thanks so much.

i don't know that they are checking "levels". with urine tests, i've always understood it's either you test positive or negative. i'm sure you're fine, OP.

I was thinking that also. I think only a blood or hair test can show how much of the drug you took and even what time.

I live in a lot of pain because of my tumors and my first doc had me on 4 80mg a day. But then he thought it would be best if I saw the pain specialist at the hospital and she's a total B very strict and cut me down to 3 60mg a day. My first doc was so cool never even gave me a urine test.
