I've been taking 400mg cold water extracted codeine for 3 or more weeks now & I don't get a high from it anymore so it's not fun. Im just taking it to feel normal. I have access to getting like a few suboxone pills from a friend. Maybe a weeks worth. If I take the suboxone for a week to help with the first week of codeine withdrawal. After I've finished the suboxone will I be over it or will the withdrawal start over again after the suboxone?
im just to figure out if it just prolongs the addiction or not.

if you only take the suboxone for a short time period (1 week or less) and you wean gradually (less each day) it should help with withdrawal symptoms

but I MUST taper the subuxone? obviously taking suboxone for a week isn't going to cause an addiction to than. how many mg of the subs would be good amount for such a weak opiate?

You will end up right back at square one if you don't taper, as a matter of fact you'll be in an even worse position being that bupe is so much stronger than codeine. It helps if you don't't think of yourself as being addicted to codeine, think of yourself as being addicted to opiates/oids in general. Switching to another opioid (bupe included) will only prolong the inevitable.

The purpose of maintenence drugs is that they have very long half-lives so that you only have to dose once a day which makes it easier to taper and keeps a steady blood level of the drug in your system. I'm going to strongly recommend you avoid taking suboxone, you've only been using for 3 weeks!

If you do decide to go the bupe route at least make sure you use the lowest possible dose and taper it, then jump off asap or your going to find yourself in hell if your struggling with codeine withdrawal. Your going to have to pay the piper eventually, so I would just tough it out for a few days or taper if your having trouble coping with withdrawal.

Why not just taper down with the codeine? Cut your normal dose in half. Then a day or two later half again. Etc.

Codeine is a weak opiate. You don't use a strong opiate (bupe) to come off a weak one.

If this is the only time you have ever done opiates I would be surprised if you even have much of a physical wd. It took me months of heroin use (in the beginning) to even get wd symptoms. Your brain doesn't make the changes so quickly to need the drug at first. But once it does, then use 3 days in a row and the wd is triggered

Anyway, sub isn't intended for detoxing from a few week codeine binge. If you quit cold turkey I can't imagine you'd get more than mild wd if that. And if you're scared if wd do what I said and halve your dose to taper over a week or so

I'd be surprised if you had any real WD symptoms after just a few days cold turkey.

Why you'd want to graduate to a stronger opiate to wean off of a weaker one is a bit weird to me.

When you say addiction are you meaning physical or mental?

physical. I definitely feel it when I don't take it. Sometimes I take 400mg of codeine twice a day. I have 7 2mg suboxone strips. I will just take one a day a suppose. I just hope I don't get withdrawal from the suboxone worse than the codeine.
ive been using for longer than 3 weeks. just 3 weeks daily. ive used stronger opiates including oxy, methadone and heroin before so im not new to addiction. But I was clean for a long time and have only just started again with codeine the last month or so. sometimes with benzos too
well it will atleast get me out of the taking codeine habbit. I have them now anyway so im going to take them.
