Help me make Fish & Chips

YiLzJ.jpg

Mushy peas on the left. and fish on the right

The chips might look a little light, but that's because the oil is new so cleaner, so they are cooked right even though they look light.

Well done that looks amazing and very authentic %)

Thanks for sharing - how did it taste, what did your peeps think of it?

Quoted because it's just soooo goood! =D

ps - nice cooker

I should have just served it as they came out, but instead I put them in the oven at 300 deg F to stay warm, and then I gave the chips their second fry when I was done cooking all the fish. That made the batter become a bit spongey, but other than that, it was excellent. The whole meal turned out being expensive, after buying the fish, the lager, potatoes, peas, lemons, and gherkins. I was cooking for 6, so after food and drinks, I spent about $80 USD. Everyone liked it, and even had some seconds since there was extra fish!

looks good mate, nice one! :D

and as kate says, that's a good price, fish is very expensive oever here, feeding 6 would cost a fair bit whatever you di, and you gave them something special too.

What fish did you use?

£50.89 that's not bad to feed 6 with drinks actually - you did good!

I think to Americans, in terms of what they earn and how much they would spend on something, $1 = £1? So that would hurt his wallet as much £80 I think. Tommy, are there any cheaper fish available in the states you could use as a substitute to bring the cost down a bit?

Cod was all that was available other than flounder. The cod is what I used, and was $15/lb

great job, Tommy! :D

however, to truly immerse yourself in British culture, this is what you need to do for your next fish supper party: eat it outside in the street, after midnight, from the wrapper, while still standing up, after at least 10 pints of lager.

no cutlery allowed.

men should be able to conduct a fistfight in the middle of the street while continuing to eat this fine dish.

women should be able to receive a good rogering from behind, bent over a dumpster up an alley, and still be able to dip their chips in curry sauce without spilling it.

================

what's the definition of a classy british bird?

she can orgasm without dropping her chips. ;)

Cod,prob the best choice for fish and chips :D , seems very expensive, cod here is about 15quid a kilo for fillets, i thought cod was a chepaer fish in the US, you have well stocked cod grounds again, or am I mistaken? I not sure how much fish is here tbh cos I only buy it very very rarely, and mainly buy stuff that i can't catch.....

Flounder definitely not a good choice for batering, can take breadcrumbs and a quick deep fry, but not the best for that either, so you chose good :)

porcelain container for the peas as well, they taste much better from polistiren

why not use vietnamese catfish that has been frozen for a couple of years like a real british chippy - much cheaper

obviously Tommy is posher than you, lemon is nice with fish.

but not in a streetfighting environment.

It is great for squirting in people's eyes though. Real men fight with lemons.

lemon juice is a good antiseptic as well if you take injury, not that it matters anyway as kebab is prime choice for the fighting mans post booze up grub, much easier to fight with one handed but at the expense of not getting a fork, which can do some good damage.
