I could be deluded. Maybe I´ll change my stance one day. I believe we have to try our best to preserve our culture. Is just giving up ever the answer? I don´t think so.

My grandfather was a radio man in the world war 2 eastern theatre, and my uncle might have worked for the communication systems for the president. I really enjoyed learning about the Navajo code talkers during world war 2.

@abefourth that´s wicked cool man. I´m sure he had some great stories. I saw the movie ¨Wind Talkers¨. While I´m sure it was not all that historically accurate, I think it´s cool just to give some attention to an underrepresented group.

@Godjilla it´s great to see you making some contributions. I had no idea you would actually take to the forums like a natural. Every time I try to sign someone up for BL in the real world, if they agree, I´m usually counting on a single post followed by a lifetime of silence ;) what a cool chick :)

I think that it's important to realize that the reason that these individuals were not given recognition was due to "keeping the Wind Talkers" secret intact in case they needed coded language again. It was a powerful advantage that could not easily be replaced once revealed. These individuals recognized it themselves and were happy to do what they could in the dire circumstances we faced fighting the Nazi and Japanese Empire in WWII.

To be fair, I'm pretty sure nobody preconceives it that way. I'm in North Jersey and that's the last image that my mind conjures when we're using alcohol and indian reservation in the same sentence lmao.
My buddy tells me stories from out west sometimes. It's sad how these people are egregiously determined to destroy themselves with alcohol despite the {numerous} taxpayer subsidized benefits they are afforded.

@streaM Freak I saw your reaction. Is everyone aware that the Cloud talkers code was never, ever broken by the Japanese ? It was was so "out of the box" in terms of cryptology that it remain classified well after WWII. Once it was finally de-classified the Cloud Talkers did get recognized. Strong computers applied to cryptology made it unnecessary to keep it a secret.

So the Native Americans helped USA in the war and were recognized for it?
 
I would never want to get political on here @Voxide so I won´t. I also know it´s very easy to misconstrue the meaning of people´s words when this is how we are communicating. I´m not a fan of the ¨determined to destroy themselves¨ description. I have no illusions regarding the nature of humanity. Indians are no different than white folk in that we commit violence against one another in search of resources.

With that being said, as a whole, natives lost the war with the whites completely and they are now living as the vanquished are often forced to live. War was fought, we lost as we couldn´t compete with the modern military technology and tactics. The rape and subjugation of the natives isn´t different than any other war. Independent of morality, natives were broken and forced to live on land alien to them, adhere to customs alien to them and live in the shadow of the conquering enemy, forever being labelled the loser... to slow, too stupid, too weak. We are made to feel that the morality, cunnin and culture of Europe were responsible for their victory, when disease wiped out at least 90% of te tribes without the whites havin to lift a finger. What if the roles were reversed? Why couldn´t they be? Whites arrive and all die of smallpox. That´s not how it happened though.

Indians are second class citizens. Reservations are a farcical recreation of the white man´s idea of what Indian culture is. They live on land chosen specifically for its worthlessness. Their first real knowledge of their people in school is how they were too stupid to beat the white man.

These ¨numerous¨ subsidies... the failure of the Indians to ¨get better¨. Well, we are one side of that. Don´t you think the people legislating the useless subsidies/programs have at least some of the blame?
