I hope to make a worthwhile contribution to this discussion group. I have loved MM since 1968, and found it helpful in keeping a smile on my face while spending a lifetime at work. You are welcome to visit my website, http://www.grow-light-source.com , I have some very advanced information there about RGB light sources, Plasma, Induction, LED with more to come.

I grew up enduring an older brother who was a perennial Heroin addict and can offer some insights into why you never want to use addictive drugs.

Enjoy life, if you don't get too high you won't get too low! ;)

Wooot northern Cali! :) about to make my introduction as well glad to walk in seeing people from home are here too

I am 61 year old fart living about 6 miles inland of the PACIFIC on a high ridge in a remote area, with my wife of 36 years and our two cats, our daughter is a fully actualized mature adult, and a working jeweler. I market cooler running, energy efficient grow lights online, these days, making change one light at at time.

My brother, Stan, was an excellent example of why I would never take an addictive drug, and why I would consul others to avoid this as well, he only lived to get his next high, he did little harm to others, but he did inflict himself on my parents financially. At times his friends stole form me and my parents, it was not a very charming lifestyle to consider for emulation. But honestly the drug use was not nearly as detrimental as the negative effects of the LAW, this is what provided a stigma for him from his early years.

It all started when he was held down and shot up by the sons of a local heroin dealer at the age of 13, he was addicted, only with breaks when incarcerated, until in his early 60's he realized he had done nothing with his life and joined a methadone program, he died within 6 months of joining the program, the methadone was harder on his failing body than the heroin had been!

This is why I believe the war on drugs should end and all drugs should be decriminalized and or medicalized, if young people see, first hand, the long term effects of addictive drugs, they will not see them as attractive or desirable and will avoid use. This seems to be working in Portugal.

I guess I am old school to the extreme, I experimented with psychedelics when I was in college during the 70's, since then I avoid everything, but the Sacred Weed, it seems this is the only substance I can use in moderation that has a positive effect on my greater life.

This is why I say, "If you don't get too high, you won't get too low!"

I totally agree that the war on drugs is more problem than the drugs... if they were all otc and all had instructions people would be educated about the good and bad parts of each substance...

Through most of my childhood my time was spent "apprenticing" under my grandfather who was a chemist turned veterinarian... I had a very good understanding of the proper way to use just about any drug by the time I was in 6th grade...

Well gramps died and then the D.A.R.E. Officer came to our school telling us about all these dangerous drugs that would ruin our lives...

After spouting off about 55gallons of bullshit he said drugs are bad and will ruin your life....

I took this as a challenge... this guy obviusly had no medical training yet he's the guy that they put in charge of educating kids about drugs? WTF?

On one hand, I have everything I've learned and seen in medecine... then on the other this guy is saying that drugs are terrible things...

Well the only sure way to get to the bottom of it was to go out and try each drug and see...

And that's what I did... I had some issues along the way... becoming addicted to booze was the main one... then intravenous opiates, cocaine, benzos etc... but overall... once I found a balance and learn how to use the stuff properly addiction was no longer an issue that couldn't be solved...

Everything is dangerous if you take too much of it.... and everything is safe in small enuf quantities...

Legislation is simply a cash register...

There will always be people who overuse things... but they aren't ticketing fat people for eating at mcdonalds...

Makes no sense to me...

Honesty is the key....

education means nothing if the educator is uneducated...

Columbia also decriminalized drugs for personal use! If you'd like, check out Drugs in the Media. Thats were drug related articles are posted and I recently checked out one about columbia's decriminalization.
