This site looks very informative and I'm hoping to get some good advice on how to taper off Xanax with valium.

I have had chronic anxiety for a few years and started Xanax about two years ago. I started with .25 as needed (a couple
times a day). Now I'm taking 2 - 2.5 mg a day about every 4-6 hours (0.5 mg per dose).

I want off the Xanax but I get rebound anxiety and need to take another one. I have 10 mg valium (previously prescribed but I don't use).

Can someone recommend a taper schedule utilizing the valium to help counteract the rebound anxiety and make this a smoother transition ?

Thank you !!!

Hi Maxima, welcome to Bluelight.

That's a pretty specific question and the right people might not notice it here in New Member Introductions. If you don't receive an answer you might want to start another thread in
Other Drugs or Sober Living, You should check those sub forums out if you haven;t already as they contain a wealth of information and plenty of support as well. I can also move it into one of those sub forums for you if you wish

Thanks again for registering and I hope to see you joining in discussions here at Bluelight.

Welcome Maxima :) Some good options suggested by the guys above. I hope you find what you need here and wish you success!

Take care,
CFC

Welcome Maxima! You've gotten some good information already so I won't add to what's already been said. Other than to mention that Valium is slightly longer-acting than Xanax, so you shouldn't have to dose as frequently using it to taper. I've kicked benzoes several times and they are both dangerous and tricky to get off of, especially if you still have anxiety. Do you have a doctor or shrink? There are other drugs better for long-term anxiety that don't give you the addiction profile that benzoes do, like some of the SSRI drugs and one called Buspar, which is a long-acting anti-anxiety drug. It's also helpful to try to learn some meditation techniques to address your anxiety without drugs. There's a thread on this site about Mindfulness Based Recovery Help (that's a paraphrase) that has some great information. Exercise, nutrition, and any other things that relax you and make you feel calm are also helpful. ~namaste~
