My pulse woke me with a jolt late one cold and grey night.
As if my very heart beat echoed throughout the room.
Racing and pounding faster than the speed of light.
That very moment filled me with fright.
Reason and logic wanting to know....
What was it that haunted me so?
Dismissing the puzzlement for the time being,
Fading into a troubled sleep.
Interested in what dreams, thoughts, and symbols I would keep.
Upon awakening to the light,
I embraced the warmth and sunshine
and dismissed that sudden and erratic fright.
