Health issues surrounding Butane lighters?

I was gonna say weed probably gives off just as many harmful goodies as any lighter does, but /navarone/ worded it much better

Dont worry my fella!

Butane lighters are not toxic at all.
What inside it its pure butane distilled and compressed from petroleum.

The combustion of butane doesnt give any nasty products, dont worry.
the combustion of butane and all other alkanes hydrocarbons follow a very simple formula.

2 C4H10 + 13 O2 ------> 8 CO2 + 10 H2O

So.. up here is the balanced formula.
As you can se butane(C4H10) needs oxygen to start combustion.
The end of reaction results in formation of carbon dioxide and water!
Hehehe....see?...nothing that bad!

/navarone/

That is of course assuming that the butane undegoes complete combustion, though I think that's a little optimistic. Whilst some imcomplete combustion reactions will probably take place, the amounts of carbon/carbon monoxide produced would be so neglible that it's not worth worrying about.

haha did it not strike anyone else that this is such a typical stoner thing to worry about? overanalyzing to the point where you just forget all about the carcinogens and harmful shit coming from inhaling the smoke of a burning plant and start worrying about combusted lighter fuel...

ah either way a reassuring topic

i didnt forget about all the shit in the plant, i just didnt feel like adding any more harmful smoke if i could avoid it. it's the same principal behind smoking better pot to reduce the amount of smoke.

Bic lighters don't burn cleanly at all. They produce a lot of soot. The only lighters I've seen that burn cleanly are the Jet lighters that burn at like 1000'C which shouldn't be used for smoking weed anyways.

I don't know of any specific health issues (except for maybe headaches? I get headaches when I sit by any kind of fumes for awhile).

However, I have smoked using a magnifying glass and the sun before (stoner love <3) and it tasted much cleaner and felt much less harsh on my throat and mouth.

If you're really worried you can design a laser ignition system. But be careful, you don't want to have the laser miss the bowl and hit your finger. 8o

This is fucking BS!

lighters arent producing just water and carbon dioxide. Especially the most commonly used one, bic. Have you ever burnt a bic with something a bit above the flame? LOOK AT THE SOOT! I was worried about this so i looked and found this topic(sorry for bump, but better than making new topic, right?).

So yeah, im pretty sure lighters ARE bad for you, because imo, soot isnt good for your lungs.

I'm gonna echo the applause of navarone's fantastic post. I'm going to memorize it and pawn it off to my friends as my own work!
